Do these IT gits do it to annoy us older farts?

It never occurred to me there was any other way of buying a lottery ticket , since the two or three times a year I bother with it , it is just an afterthought at the checkout and I’ll ask for a ‘lucky dip’ , even though I realise I’d be as well tossing the £1 down the drain .
Even worse, it’s £2 now!

Play to lose,
I learned at the casino's.
It means you should set your limit, and not be disappointed.

But since it is so dangerous out there, the online option reduces risk of such a high risk adventure.

Another £1.50 I played and lost last night. Realising what I hadn't got coming I spent £7.96 on Guinness, but wisely this time/s.

The odds of winning the UK lottery are the same as being involved in 4 separate plane crashes
Well there is the story of the lady , a nurse IIRC , who managed to survive the sinkings of Titanic , Lusitania and Britannic - whether you’d call that lucky or unlucky is a matter of opinion . Perhaps she became a jinx .

We are rolling it out to all members, all it does is email you a code everytime your password expires, enter the code and your logged in.

It makes your account safe. Most sites are rolling it out as standard now.

Is this a one off event or each 30 days as suggested?

Being an old fart I don't see the point of having to go jump more hurdles each time I want to do something simple.
But it's your train set.

We are making your account safer. With respect, you are likely to be the type of user who uses the exact same password on every account/Website out there. By adding this safety feature it prevents someone from accessing your account on here and changing password without your consent..

We look after your so called 'Train Set' and have to deal with the fall out when passengers get their accounts hacked, or repeatedly forget their passwords, accusing the Train set operators of having a broken Train track.

Many years ago I ran several credit cards, and even more bank accounts. I'm sure there are many here would doubt my reasons and even want me to justify that, but I don't feel the need. They did have purpose, all legal and ethical.

Anyway I recognised that they also came with risk from the corrupt. They also required managing, this wasn't a problem but did take some time to audit each month. Time had moved on and I chose to rationalise those accounts to both reduce risk and save time.

I recognised years ago that Facebook came with risk. I had used it to record my life's events for others to follow, a tad more interesting than a photo of my food at some place. I decided to close the Facebook account as I recognised that so much of it was tosh. I tried but gave up trying to close it as the hurdles to prevent that weren't even visible. I merely deleted all content I could and changed the account name. Since I have been selective of my online interactions not only cos' o' the risk but because you can lose your life to it so easily, like I am typing this cos' I'm a slow typist, and then I've to correct my mistakes.

Last year I listened to the young 'uns in the family telling me that Revolut was the travel card to have. So 'online' via the mobile I set up an account. Email required, address, photo, mobile they have, and £10 by transer. OK. Then the gits wanted me to record a video of myself ffs. I lost interest at that point. But they have my tenner and because I have no intention of recording a video the account is frozen, they of course aren't contactable, even by replying to the many, many emails and texts I keep getting. They can have the bl**dy tenner I just wish they would leave me alone. I don't need the that much, and after all every account has risk.

You tell me this 'account' has risk. Anyone can easily see what I drive and where I live. From this site, in a Facebook style. They can gleam many things about me and my life. Yes you are right there is risk and changing my password won't reduce that already present risk.
I don't know if you would like me to go into my email, that then might need me to go to the other email, that will send a code to my phone, just to tick a box to say it's still me.
I don't know if you and the other media will require me to change the password to something I need to manage each month.
I find these things increasingly frustrating and with that I'm increasing my desire to avoid such.

I recognised it is your train set, not mine.
I just need decide if I'm willing to play with it, if and when invited.

Given the forum is freely readable without signing in, what exactly is being protected?

As email accounts are so easily hacked, is there an option to receive the log in PIN by text?

Probably possible to send codes via SMS, but I would imagine that each text message costs money whereas emails don’t.

It’a your account which is being protected, and therefore the ability to assume your identity, rather than protect your posted content.

By definition you have given permission to view posted content, but you have not given permission for a hacker to compromise your account and pretend to be you.

Or you put your password in wrong 3 times, go to reset your password and it says new password cant be the same as old password

E-mail accounts are only 'easy' to hack if you use a weak password. I've been using the internet and online services pretty much since it became widely available. I've never had an account 'hacked' or otherwise compromised.
