Ok, with all the talk about plates lately it interests me to see how many of you actually have a private plate or would like to have one.

Not sure what vote to cast - I like them in one sense, but also like to blend in on the road. Have never thought of something that means something worthwhile to me that doesn't end up in]]being a catchy memoral plate for others when I am on the road. No that I leave a trail of destruction behind me or anything.

Yes, managed to get my initials and a single digit on the old prefix style in a DVLA sale (£399), incidentally means my W211 has a plate that is much older than it is but as it is still (just) the current model no one knows if it is new or not.

Always joked about people with private plates but there are loads of things I've done now that I wouldn't have thought I would when I was younger ;)

Though I see the point, I can always find something better to spend the money on. When I'm rich I'll buy one, but for now...

Yes....car appropriate on the SL and my wife's first name on retention.....she won't have it!!

I have had mine for so long I forget when I bought it, in that time it has been on plenty of vehicles and I have yet to find a time when I forget my registration, or give the last one.

However, I did put it on retention when I bought the AMG in 2005. After the first 2 or 3 returns to get the damn thing fixed, I bought a 2005/55 plate for it so that selling it would be simplier. Then it was just a matter of actually breaking the bond with the car, which took another 9 months and 3 more breakdowns.

At the time when I was running 2 cars, it was easy to remember which car was which, and I have several work runabouts at the moment, which need me to remember the number plate when filling them up. (So I take the right card for the car)

And now the car its on, really does look daft with a private plate! and that makes me chuckle too. In fact, around Dec 2008, the car will be worth less then the plate or sooner if I have got the plate market a bit out.

It has my full initials on it and is 100% me. its non year dated too. So if ever I end up buying my dream car (A Bentley speed 6 Circa 1929) it would suit it.

Over here, you can have whatever you want (up to six letters or numbers or combination) as long as no one else has already taken it.
The NZ "D of T" then make & send you the plates after you have paid for them. (Stops all the silly illegal spacing & doctoring of letters)

Yes, MJN IV

Where MJN is my initials.

A poor man's MJN 1 !!

Bought off e-bay 2 years ago £1,500.

I'll have it for ever and i'm happy.

Wife has XI NJN - her initials (DVLA £900)

My W211 is 5 years old now with 65,000 but still looks new - the plate helps take the ageing away and so in the long run may even save me money???

I said yes, even though it is Irish, but looks alright, hides the age to most people who don't realise the facelift/prefacelift changes so could be up to a W reg. Plasterer today said it "looks like it'd be worth more like £3-4000 car so not all bad.....;)

If I could afford 6INAS @ £20,000 then I'd have it
or 6INA M @ £4500 as that's my name and my surname Initial. :D

Mum has A MA77Y on hers (A MATTY)

D'ya like dags ? ;)

Ha ha!

A pal of mine has ' G1NA G ' on his wifes car .....

And how much was that? Alot I might imagine....I'd have to marry someone with surname beginning with G! :D

I don't know ...

He has ' M4RV V ' on hi and she has that on hers .... he's a lock keeper so i wouldn't imagine it was massively expensive to be honest .... but they have had it a good few years ....

To be sure .... to be sure ....

R2 *** with my initials is where R2D2 came from. Its been on all three of my Mercedes.

I thought it was because you were a small round robot Greg ..... ;)

Yes, but only a £399 DVLA one in the correct format for the year ... not an 'ageless' reg.

I have two on retention, both with my initials.

My car is fitted with a plate I bought at a DVLA auction last year for £2450, and recently turned down a offer of £6000 so not a bad investment.:)

Nearly forgot my SL has a ageless plate that came from a TVR I used to own then kept it on retention for a number of years.

The one I really want is P4MMY - was sold recently for £17k iirc :(

Have thought about one a number of times. One option was my initials - but as they are subject to change - perhaps not the best idea :D :D :D

Then thought about P666 MMY, been on DVLA for yonks - now gone  But more important things keep demanding my financing:D :D
