The MINI has never been a small car, other than inside. The first incarnation is about the same size as a Peugeot 306.

Clearly they're going for ugly rather than small!

    Interestingly, it wasn't BMW engineered.

By the time of the BMW takeover, the MINI was fully styled with pre production cars doing the rounds.

Is Maxi a registered name, and if so do BMW own it?

Don't know but whereas the Mini name has chic, trendy, about-town connotations to use in publicity:cool: the old Maxi name-----------???

It's not so much a matter of how big a new mini is, but rather how tiny the original one is.

I used to own an Austin Maxi - I'm sure it was bigger than the house I owned at the time. It was 4,039mm x 1,626mm; an interesting comparison with the little C-class I now have at 4,591mm x 2,008mm. It's not only people who are getting bigger!

As for copyright of the Maxi name, there's already a VW Caddy Maxi van and a Renault Kangoo Maxi.

In comparison to other brands and how far they have bulged at the waistline, it looks in keeping. Albeit the perspective makes it look worse.
