The iconic 70's musclecar is reborn

Now all they need to do is ressurect the Challenger, paint a Confederate flag on the roof and put "01" on the doors and they could make a TV show to feature it ;) :D

Motoring...........moving to General Discussion.

It takes a certain degree of skill to ruin an iconic car and turn it into a jelly mould replica.

Not my cuppa! Looks like another retro attempt and yet another failure imo.

Just curious, but do you include the BMW MINI in that bracket? And why?

I'm not so sure. The MINI is fantastically successful, the VW Beetle did pretty well and the Cinquecento will sell by the bucketload. I'd expect the new Charger to be more of a niche product than the three cars I mentioned, but I wouldn't take bets on it not selling.

You mean the Charger. ;) There already is a new charger on sale in the US, it's pretty hideous IMO. I love the new Challenger though.

As for the Mini, whilst it may be a success story sales wise, I hate it. When it was new, it was perhaps 'cool' because of the novelty value, but it's just naff now IMO.

I think the car I include in that bracket, is the car we are discussing??

Not keen to be honest. I don't like reborns of the classics, it makes me feel the manufacturers have run out of new ideas...

I'd have a older beetle over a new one anyday....I'd have a 60's mustang over a new one...etc...

I don't think you can bring back a iconic classic, they should stay in their era..

Actually I quite like that, I think they've really captured the ethos of the 60's style of the challenger, just could have done have done a better job with the rear lights.

Oh and it needs some chrome on it....

OK, understood. I couldn't work out from your first post whether you were refering to this reworking of an iconic car specifically, or whether it was a more general point you were making. (If there was a "thumbs up" smilie, I'd add one at this point!)

I really like it.

and as for retro; we've had the beetle (brilliant car); got the Mini; and wife now wants the new Fiat 500.

Actually I quite like that, I think they've relly captured the ethos of the 60's style of the challenger...
I agree that it captures the spirit of the original car, and I rather like the look of it too. It's like a cover version of a song: a blatant copy is just that; a different interpretation that misses the point of the original is no good either, but one that captures the spirit of the original while still being different can be good in it's own right.

Oh come on, that is lovely.
And it's got a HEMI, before you start.....I am so keen on the Aussie Hemi, 265cui, I've named my son, Hemi joe, after it!

Goes to show that once again, the americans cannot do interiors. Look at the acres of smooth grey plastic in that!

I looks like there were cutbacks in the styling dept. to me - its not pretty and not even nearly ugly enough to be attractive in the way (im sure) was intended.

shame

I agree, its hideous. Like a cartoon version of the original

(it looks too short and too high - and just awful)

I had an original shape Challenger and would sell one or all of my vital organs to have a new one in Hemi orange.... I must have watched Vanishing Point a thousand times, and the noise of that big block motor is bordering on the pornographic...
