Wouldn't touch it with a barge poll ! Would you want to buy a car with a fictional history? Sad to see the seller "appears" to be based in Dundee.

I would bet my car that this is illegal. It must be fraud. falsifying documents to change the value of the car..!

Suprised eBay let it continue..!

He should be reported to Mercedes as clearly he can get main dealer stamps whenever he likes!

I thought that service books have the car's details attached at the back.

also, when you get one from MB, it has duplicate stamped all the way through it

this guy may be printing his/her own

FMBSH for £45

I've seen these type of things before, what people do it choose a car dealer that has relocated and put that address in the stamp.

At one point stamps were avialable, its a joke.

Is it s quick e-mail to Mercedes UK / E-bay

E-mail sent to Mercedes,

He is a new user, how long will that advert stay there now...

Be worth checking as s/he will simply change their name and create a new acount.

lJust goes to show why a full ledger of receipts is important too -- + a call to the servicing dealer...when buying a used car from anyone other than a MB dealer

Seller is not adding the details, only stamps, which may well be the sort often sold on ebay which are obvious fakes.

It's all a waste of time, and there will be no wip numbers to back up any of the fake stamps.

The memory has long gone I'm afraid of what all the Criminal Offences may have been committed or will be committed, but :

Forgery ?
Forgery is the process of making or adapting objects or documents (see false document), with the intent to deceive. The similar crime of fraud is the crime of deceiving another, including through the use of objects obtained through forgery. Copies, studio replicas, and reproductions are not considered forgeries, though they may later become forgeries through knowing and willful mis-attributions.

Obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception under s16(c) Theft Act 1968

Long time since I wore "the cloth" and well before the advent of EBay. If I had found out about him, a quick warrant a spin of his drum & overtime cliamed!!!

It's an interesting one though. The new Fraud Act criminalises the possession of various articles intended to be used in fraud.

I think though, that what he is doing is PROBABLY not at a full enough stage to be illegal though! Immoral yes, and will probably lead to fraud.

Essentially though, he has produced replica service books. These do not relate to any car, and COULD be used legitimately. It would only be when someone bought the book, entered fraudulent details AND THEN attempted to pass off the car as having full MBSH that an offence would have been committed.

Whilst everything else is strongly "Preparatory", it is the same with offensive weapons- Many articles become "offensive" when their holder has the required mens rea, but they are entirely innocent otherwise, and conversely many weapons with clearly only one use can NEVER be innocent.

In the case of items for fraud, something like a "Lebanese Loop" to catch credit cards in ATMS can NEVER have a legitimate use, so is automatically an "Article used in fraud".

However, this one isn't automatically so, until someone buys it with fraudulent intentions....

Its so damn refreshing to see that there are still people out there that are bothered enough about things like this that they do something about it. Its none of you lots problem if someone else is conned into buying a car with a fake history but you’ve all still made the effort to prevent it happening.

I’m always laughed at in my circle of friends for being a 29 year old victor Meldrew because I ‘interfere’! e.g when I complained to my local Iceland because their delivery drivers was seen driving dangerously on numerous occasions, calling the rozzers if I see something blatantly suspicious or illegal or just helping a stray dog off the A12!!!

Well done lads

He's already created a new account.

This listing was pulled when a member of www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk complained to ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-BENZ...ryZ10398QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller simply opened a new acct, copied & pasted his listing & is back in business. I reported it to ebay 24 hrs. ago but nothing happened.

I also asked the seller if he could forge service histories for non-Merc cars - reply there came none!

OFT called back, took all the details and said that this was a police matter and they would pass it on.
Also took my name, address, postcode, phone number, DoB and asked if I knew the seller etc.

Interesting ..so if i had some plates that "could" be used to print bank notes ..but I had no intention of doing so...as I just wanted them as a collector for their intrinsic beauty....wonder how that would go down...
