Does anyone know if there is anyone round london that has star diagnose that can lower my airmatic CLS?

Or a friendly MB Dealer who will do it?

Cheers

You need more than a Star. I can lower it a little but you may get "vehicle too low visit workshop" displayed on the dash.

You need a lowering module really

Why do you say you need more than star?

The US boys seem to have no problems with their star lowered cars..

The lowering modules are a huge con at £1000.. there are much cheaper ways to do the same thing.. but I am just being lasy.

Olly knows what he is talking about Amit ...

You could buy 10 bags of gravel from Wickes and drive about with them in the boot , that would be a cheaper way of doing it ...

Welcome! It's worth putting your location and car model - will get you a better response!

I know of Alfie in Woking, BlackC55 in Portsmouth and Jaymanek in the Midlands. All dependable members of this forum

We could certainly have a fiddle with this for you but we have a policy of not interfereing with anything that could possibly affect the safety of your car.

Olly is the best person here to advise on this and do the job if you want it done. He knows what he is doing.

No doubt you can find someone with a Star Diagnostic Computer to do it cheap and then will you want the work gauranteed? Cheapo jobs tend to sometimes work out really expensive. Saving a penny and spending a pound is not something my rabbi will find amusing :)

I like the idea of getting it done via star as it seems the most oem.. but BlackC55.. what problems have you faced and what do you mean by you need more than star?

If you were more local.. I would jump at it.

I am based in london and drive a cls 320

Regarding tricks there are a few options..

One is to space the drop link brackets that connect the drop links to the body with washers to fool the car into thinking its higher than it acutally is.. Similar to what happens when you use adjustable drop links. Here you are adjusting the link length where as with washers, you are spacing the bracket where it attaces to the body.

The other is using DIY electronics to intercept the voltage received from the ride height sensors and modify these. Should be able to do it simply using variable resistors.. could even get in car control ;)

This is what the lowering modules do.. except they have a little extra trickery that connects to the can bus and disables the lowering module over certain speeds. This is because at motorway speeds, the air matic lowers the car further.

If you have used links or the washer trick and run your car very low, when you hit motorway speeds, the car will lower even further and change all your suspension geometery to unsafe amounts or maybe even bottom out the shocks depending on how low you run.

This is why I prefer the star method as its the most OEM.

So anyone near lonodon with Star that can lower the car about 1"?

I dont want to do it on the cheap.. as already stated.. just properly without spending 1k on a module when it is adjustable via star to with in safe limits designed in by MB.

Modding it via star is the safest and best way to do it.. if you can find someone to do it.. Its very common in the US.. just not over here.
