I put a post on here before because I thought I may have been flashed in france, but heard nothing. At easter went to stay with my girlfriends family in france, on the way home on the motorway my girlfriend saw speed camera but it was to late before she could say slow down got flashed at 100mph. Does anyone know for certain if they can send the fine here.
If they do send it here I thought of sending it back person un-known at this address. Only problem is car is redisterded to my girl friend who lives here but is french so kind of makes it complicted as they have all here records in france  .

I should imagine the nature of how you are caught is irrelevant as far as the legalities - you were breaking the law, whether you get stopped on the spot or a camera get's you, I am sure legally action can be taken.

HOWEVER, in the case of a camera, remember you still have the odds it was not live and if it was, I doubt they bother posting to the UK.

If they do, unless it's sent recorded, I should imagine it got lost eh?

The approach we took when in Netherlands & Germany!

me too

I got flashed at 120mph on the auto route - with a 110 kmh speed limit (about 60mph... ooops...) - last sunday...

Hopefully the froggy system cant deal with my slightly missplaced (by accident of course) number plate.

I'm not sure about this but I thought that they held the offence on record until you next enter the country in question. Maybe not though for minor offences.

You can relax. At the moment there is no conection with the French authorities and the British.
As soon as I get my lorry back from the repair shop and get my bike magazine out of it, I'll post the proper write-up I read on the subject. ;)

I'm pretty certain that speed camera talk should go in the "Roadrage/Incidents/Wins" section as it's a road-related motoring anecdote :) . Moving...

I would be careful of speeding in France and Belguim now.

The French police have started to confiscate the cars of Brits caught speeding over there

I also believe that European contries have started to tie there speed cameras, my french collegues tell me if they get caught speeding in Belgium the ticket will arrive at there home in France

Thats good to hear that there's no connection between britsh and french system yet, I had just slowed down from 120mph following an English guy in a D reg E-class, will keep up to date with whats going on as I go to see family 4 times a year. Hope they dont keep on record because go back and forth enough that there get me one day. To be honest other people will know what i mean this country is so stricked know with banning you over certain speeds that when you leave the country you just get carries away. Admitidly I do here sometimes as well but thats silly. BAN

only a matter of time before the French computer is connected to the UK one.

If I hear anything I will let you know

As has been posted before, I got done in Belgium doing 85 on their Motorways, a few years back. Fine arrived at my house three months later.

Sorry Brian - As a newbie did not know about that post

Did they incliude any chocolate? :D

I was reading on 1 website that if your caught in france now at 180kph (110mph) the fine is 1400 euros that like £1000 thats mental. That would take a smile of my face and many others to. Must be honest hope we all get away with it!

In France and Belgium, the police tend to have reception committees, especially for foreign registered cars.
Although they have to possibility to flash you automatically, the "invitation" to pay is then posted to the offending driver. If it's a foreign registered car, they don't have immediate access to the name and address of the owner. Although there is increased cooperation between countries that does sometimes enable them to send out the "invitation to pay" it is always going to be difficult for them to follow it up.
In their home country, of course, if you don't pay, they do have the option of taking away your licence. In the case of foreign drivers I don't think that is the case. Yet. But I'm sure they're working on it!

Sometimes you'll get away with it because it is an automatic camera; sometimes, however, there will be a reception committee and they are not going to let their bonus escape so easily!

In Belgium, the police will take you to the nearest cash dispenser (all major credit cards accepted...) to make sure they get the money! And the fines for speeding and other "serious" offences have recently gone up.

In time, they will be equipped with their own "point of sale" terminals.

It makes you wonder if they will now locate the speed cameras in the most dangerous places, or the places that have a bank near by!!

In France 4 or 5 years ago I was flashed out of the back of a Pug 205 which was parked on the hard shoulder with the bonnet up.

a few miles later 2 nice Gendarmes on bikes invited me to join them in the back of their tatty old police van, which was stuffed with screens all showing views of the road. They printed me a nice picture of me on my bike, complete with speed.

I tried all the usual tactics - Stupid Brit, Mono-lingual Brit, Poor Brit, Rushed Brit, Sorry Brit. They escorted me to a cash-point about 10 miles away (leaving mt bike on teh hard shoulder guarded by their bike-colleague. They stood behind me fingering their smart white pistol holsters while I used the cash machine. It was about £100 for about 100mph (on a dual-carriageway) as I recall.

Still made the ferry though! :bannana:

I don't think there is much co-operation between forces, even between British and CI forces, as I have been stopped a few times in England and as soon as I show my licence they tell me to get lost. After all why waste time and paperwork on some-one who doesn't fit the procedures when there will be 50 more who do along in the next hour. I don't worry about your GATSOs either, after a work colleague of mine was flashed twice at 130mph  , had his pictures in the Daily Telegraph, but was never even contacted. I always adhere to town limits, which is pretty easy with the speed limiter on the cruise control, but don't worry too much about the 50s or NSLs.

Hmm , I wonder if you could just not go back to france and advise them to keep their 1400 euro fine? :)

Doesnt seem that much of a hardship :)

For me it would be a hardship, because in 3 weeks i'm marrying a french lady, I go there 3 to 4 times a year. Will continue to and really like the country. Its like any country got its bad parts and good parts. But can say people say about going to france with the french being rude, I'm from london and can tell you been to parts of britain where I find them alot ruder than the average french town.
I know thats slightly off track but just explaining why its a hardship not to go and why I wouldn't not want to.

Now that's a reply that i like, well explained and parts that made me laugh alot :bannana: . Nice one mate :p

Just saw a posting on a local (Luxembourg) website: someone was flashed yesterday in Luxembourg coming off the motorway towards France, 138 kph instead of 90 kph: €145 fine and 2 points off his licence.
The police were on a bridge over the motorway -- difficult to miss them, difficult for them to miss him.
Most people on the forum thought he was (a) a ****, and (b) lucky.

Still, just goes to show that Luxembourg doesn't need the money!

Interestingly, there current safe driving campaign shows a picture of a wheelchair with the slogan "You're next car?"

I think my return journey from Stuttgart, via Belgium, Luxemburg and France (maybe not in that order!) all at very much 100+ (anything up to flat out as and when possible) was very much a one off for my memories then!! Glad I had my brother on board to experience it and my camera to record the Road Angel readings!
