Now this may seem like a silly question. I'd like to know where to buy or get a hold of some empty beer kegs (the metal type). The reason? Well like you see on different strongman events, I just want to get a couple to do some strongman type carrying training by loading them to a preset weight (working up to 100kg).

I know of companies that sell everything else but not these.

Help much appreciated :thumb:

Possibly contact your local pub. They'll have a deposit on empty kegs and may be prepared to allow you to have them in lieu of the deposit money.

However, they are still probably owned by the supplying brewery so that might be problematic in the longterm.

Maybe worth contacting a local brewery ? They might have damaged kegs that they cannot use lying around.

Whoops ! .......................................

The problem with the plastic ones is they will undoubtedly crack when dropped. I need the metal type or even the wooden type, but the metal type will probably stand up to more continued punishment.

I like the idea of buying 2 full ones and emptying them of the contents. However I'd like to put on muscular bodyweight and I doubt that liquid refreshment would be able to do that, as pleasurable as that may be, but thanks anyways.

You could always invite some friends round to help you dispose of all that unhealthy liquid

I would like to volunteer for the disposal team. I have many years experience. LAGER PREFERRED.

I'll help emptying them too - wouldn't want Meldrew to do all the work all alone! Must team together to help ;)

Try these guys for a full one, but I reckon most will use polybarrels:

Make sure you get a certificate of disposal though, or kegwatch may get you ;)

they may also be able to help you find a disposal agent for kegs... the nearest one of these guys should help:

Alternatively... these guys repair and sell the steel/alu ones...

May be pricey though...

Many years ago, borrowed some from local pub for raft construction. Had to return them after the race though.

I would imagine that you will have trouble locating some given the high prices of scrap metal at the moment, especially Ali.

Wooden ones on ebay but not cheap.

A beer, wine, and spirits wholesaler might be able to help you out. Also you could try the brewery websites to find where your nearest depo is. Im not sure if its still there but John Smiths used to have quite a big depo near Warrington. However imo you might be better off with wood or plastic because youl have a job filling kegs because they are pressurised like gas bottles.

Is there no way to release the pressure? Or take the end cap off?

Not that im aware of sadly :( the only way into them really would probably be cutting them then once filled weld it back up. Thinkin about it a cask barrel might be easier to get into but im not to sure on the workings of those.

Beer kegs are about the 1 thing no scrap yard will ever touch, they'll happily buy stolen roadsigns, man hole covers and lead off church roofs from the pikeys, but never kegs...

They look good but I will need a very large van to pick one up. I think a fellow member will be sorting me some out soon :thumb:

Oh and I've found a very simple way to remove the complete valve from the keg in order to fill it with water.
