Hi Folks.

My Command cuts out for a few seconds if i listen to music at fairly high volume!!!! Im not a daft teen with "tunes blasting" out all day but i think if the volume is quite high then i drive on a motorway it automatically gets slighter higher for the road noise.
The weather has been great recently  and ive had the pano roof back causing more noise normal -henced the higher volume.
Their must be some sort of thermo protection, but i would have thought MB's would be able to cope with a few more db's?
Would a speaker upgrade help?

Awaiting you torrent of sound advice and abuse.......

I have mine up "fairy loud" occasionally, and I have never experienced this.
It sounds like it could be a faulty output transistor.
Get the unit checked by experts.

Are you navigating or just listening to music?
If navigating it could be that it is muting the sound to output a voice command but the voice command turned down too low.
Just a thought.

That's a good point - the same thing would happen with traffic announcements too if the TA volume was relatively low.

If the volume was cutting out for any thermal reasons then it would cut out for a while, not a few seconds.

Thanks for the input guys,

It happens only when listening to music fairly loud. (5-10secs) .....i had a car years ago with an amplifier, if the music was too loud then the amp used to cut out for a few seconds too....it seems like a similair thing, i don't know if the MB system has an amp? or where it would be fitted...I'll get it in for a check up...i just thought i would run it past the experts first..:D
Thanks

It may just be a peaking thing - perhaps it has limits built in and it cuts out as it thinks it's playing too loud?

Why not turn the volume down and see if the problem goes.

Hi oldcro, like i said in my first post, it's only at fairly high volume that it does it...at normal volume it has always been fine.

If your loud is not window vibrating, ear thumping loud then you have a problem. I am sure it will not be that loud though otherwise you would not be able to hear any other road users audible warning devices :)

Thank you.......
it wouldn't ber a good thread unless you had your say Glojo..:D
I was awaiting that razor sharp wit from you.

Thats made my day.....lol
Cheers

I said... Consistancy is not something to be mocked.

My money is on the COMAND being defective, or you need to turn up your hearing aid :)

Comand, and the audio gateway that goes with it, has/had a known problem in this area. Mine was the same and still is on very rare occasions and its the similar vintage as yours.

It sounds to me that in this instance the A/G is overheating and shutting down then re-setting after a little while. When listening to loud music the amplifiers are working hard and so the over heat. The fix was to fit a modified A/G with cooling fans. Mine has these fans, now, but still occasionally throws a wobbly typically in weather like we have at the moment.

HTH?

Portzy.

Thanks portzy.
I'm guessing it's a heat related thing, it is fine weather and the unit will be working a bit harder with the roof being open i am listening to music a bit louder ( but can still hear other vehicle's audible devices Glojo..lol).

Where abouts is the amp located Potzy? i will have a look at the location and see if i can get some cool air moving about it...

My next post will be how do i put the interior back in my car.....:wallbash:

Thanks for the help folks....:thumb:

I dont know about the rest of the MB range but mines in the passenger side footwell, under the carpet, where your feet rest, in its own little cut-out. I'm guessing thats not the best place for cooling etc but its a matter of space I suppose.

Can I just point out that simple repetition is not consistency?

To be consistent something must demonstrate an orderly logic, something simple repetition arguably does not.
