Apologies for asking for more help/advice

I have a w221 2008 (58 plate)

I accelerated sharply to join a dual carriage way this afternoon and glanced in my mirror as I left the other cars behind
I noticed a plume of smoke in my wake. I have had cars with DPF's previously and never noticed this before, so I guess I don't have one fitted??

Many Thanks

I am also trying to find out when the DPF was added to the W221 S320 cdi? Apparently 08 onwards have a DPF FITTED fron what i have learnt. Is there a DPF light on the instrument cluster???

What would that look like?

I am not sure, i asked this question in the DPF thread i started but couldn't get anyresponses on this. I am thinking the engine management light is also a DPF warning light??? If you have ur vehicle's owners manual, you can check in there regarding DPF LIGHT. If you go to www.mercedes-benz.co.uk > Owners Area > Register, theb type ur VIN number then you can see the data sheet for your car, which states all the main features in your car.

I have the model before yours Teshie (2005 W220), and IIRC from past discussions, it seems my car does have one fitted, so I would expect that yours also has a DPF.

I may be talking out of my hat, but I think the DPF stores the crud, and when you gave the car a kickdown/boot, I expect the DPF was cleared out a bit - hence the cloud of soot etc that you saw. Someone more knowledgeable about DPF will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I would have thought you have a DPF on that year, but your description would point to no DPF.

Datacard is the easiest way to check as indicated above.

Any diagnostic equipment can check the condition of the DPF but a proper STAR can regenerate if you are doing multiple short journeys. If you're doing long journeys then the car will do it automatically once it reaches a good temperature and you're cruising.

We'll it would appear that it's got a DPF according to the website
It's also got headlight cleaning system.......that doesn't work??

I would be surprised if any soot came out of the exhaust if a DPF is fitted. The exhaust pipes on cars fitted with them tend to be spotless with no sign of sootiness.
Unless of course the car is re-mapped, running a tuning box?

I forgot to mention that it may have a Brabus D6 fitted as it's got all of the badges but I can't find the box anywhere??

Just been out to check the headlight cleaning system and it works!!!
