My house was burgled last Saturday whilst we were out shopping..it appears that considering how the person who carried out this act that I could have been watched and targeted..my question is does owning a Merc attract the wrong type of attension to yourself and property ?
I was seriously considering upgrading to an Amg 55k but have now decided to rethink my plans.

Sorry to hear that OM.

I doubt if the car was the only factor - lowlifes look for easy targets first.

Yes it does...we've been burgled twice...and owned Mercs on both occasions.

That would seem to indicate 100% proof, if proof was needed.

I hereby nominate you for the Nobel priize for your peerless work in advanced statistical analysis! :D

Three years ago I was burgled only for my cars. They took an M3 and ML both around 6 months old! Eventually the ring was caught and the police indicated that criminal group had obtained sales lists from both MB and BM including models and addresses! So they arent just targeting houses they are targeting customers!

Sorry to hear your news and the people impact is often forgotten in these crimes. My 7 year old sold couldn't sleep for months after.

Burglary effects people differently, my wife cries, I get the brochures for new stuff.:D Got £4000 for the Hi Fi first time around...and it had to be purchased from my favourite shop...oh joy!

Similar in my house.

Me new stuff (cars)
My wife and youngest lived in fear for months. Then new stuff (security)
My middle two where whats the fuss about and can we have new stuff anyway?

Unfortunately it does. Sister in laws 61 plate c180 coupe was the target of a burglary.
Only thing they took was a laptop from the house.

A few weeks later the police phoned to say they had recovered her laptop from a house on the other side of Manchester. What had made them raid that house??? Yes you've guessed it a stolen mercedes parked outside, stolen from London in a burglary.

The police are convinced the guys broke into her house to steal the spare keys and come back later on in the nite to take the car. Luckily they didn't find the spare.

This was all in broad daylight too!!

Make sure your neighbours have a better merc, like ours who has a c63, my c350 sport on a 54 (private plate) makes us look poor......

Guess I am safe then ;)
My neighbour has Bentley Continental :D

I'm worried now as we have the best cars in the close.... gulp....

(must encourage my neighbours to buy something decent...) :D

I remember reading an article once, interviewing an ex burglar.
He said that he mostly went for normal average looking places as they are usually more lapse in security etc.

But I suppose it could be said about cars as well, an older car is a target for a joyrider a flash one for an organised hit.

Get security and make some of it obvious!

You can never rule anything out and its a sad fact that we will never stamp out this scum but the more deterrents you have the more likely they are to go on to the next.

NOTICE TO BURGLARS , I have the least money in our street, please try over the road .:(
Personally , i believe any scumbag that burgles deserves to get shot.

I was burgled when I had a new BMW and then I was burgled when I had a new Audi.

Since having old Mercs I've not been burgled. The crims probably know I can't have any money after paying to keep them on the road.

A W140 SEL on the drive should do it!

I got followed home twice in the M3 CSL, and that was enough to make me serious think hard about having nice cars.
That is one of the reasons I always go for estates, debadged the 335i and the 535d, they look like a basic dog carrier.

Before I got my current S212. I was seriously considering an AMG, but my boss advised me against it, because he thinks it'll attract scumbags to my home.

Now reading on this thread, I am somewhat relieved I haven't got anything real fancy, although its the newest in the Close. Touch wood, hope nothing would happen??!!

I considered the implications..........for a nanosecond.

I couldn't live my life that way.

LOL! I actually considered my boss's advise for an nanosecond too! :D
Real reason was my son final year down at London, and making overpayment on my mortgage, so I could clear it in 3years(hopefully), it's costing me an arm and a leg!!
