Looking to purchase a car from Southern Ireland and I'm not sure if I'm being spun a yarn or not, but I'm being told that there isn't the equivalent of an annual MOT.....is this true?

Private cars should have an NCT(National Car Test) every two years once there 4 years old. I think commercials are different.

Yes there is the NCT on commercials every 12 months,Just to add the nct is very strict and is harder to obtain than an MOT,
unless less the car is 30yrs old then no test required,
long way to go for a car, must be a good one!!!!
its a pain to travel so far & be greated by a nail happened to me twice,if its local to me could have a quick look for you
hope this helps,

Co.Mayo about hour and a half from me,if you were flying in fly to KNOCK Co .Mayo
he said theres no MOT wonder why ? How old is car when was last NCT
things to look for on Irish cars
usually no history main dealer
suspension damage shocks etc(bad roads)
excellent condition =adverage UK (not allways thou)
bit of messing about with transfer to uk
good points no salt damage

MOT is Ministry of Transport, a former British Government dept, so I doubt they have an MOT as such, but an annual test yes.
