MB 508D 1973
I need to buy a new engine for my MB L 50 8 DG/29 - 1973.
I have found a MB 508 D - 1977 with a good engine.

I am not sure though how to check if it is the same version of the OM314 - the right version/same mounts.

Unfortunately, the engine identification plate on my car is gone. Only thing I have is the VIN number, but it is to short to search for online (car too old).

Is there any list/register that can show if the two cars are using the same engine mounts?

You can get a M601940 from a later 508 or a sprinter and it will fit straight in ,you also will need gearbox to match it.

A short flick through the EPC using a sample Vin starting 309415 reveals 5 versions of the OM3I4. -- 948/959/ 961/962/963 Unfortunately the engine mounts do vary with engine number so you need to find it on the engine block or the vehicle registration document. A start would the first few nos of your vin ??

The answer may be that it can be made to fit if you're willing to throw time (which also means money) at it.
