Hello all

Had my car in for a rear brake line replacement as they had rusted through and started to leak.

They informed me that there was very lower pressure going to only the rear brakes due to either the master cylinder not working or the ABS pump.

Any ideas on what it is more likely to be?

Also, are there separate master cylinders and ABS pumps for the rear than the front?

Thanks in advance.

That's a relief - thought from your thread title that your pet had broken its back legs or something ( sorry couldn't resist). Did the car fail it's MOT and was it an MB specialist who diagnosed the problem.? Only 1 ABS pump.

OMG sorry I did not realise 😂 guess that title is staying there.

So we gave it in to fix the brake lines and when that was done they said they noticed the issue with the low pressure at the rear.

The breaks have been a little off for a while in terms of the brake pedal not being sensitive at all.

is this safe to drive to maybe get it not another indy or MB specialist?

The problem is that I need my car badly and getting the train is a huge waste of money and time.

I just realised how bad my spelling is today. Sorry

Difficult to say whether it's safe to drive with dodgy brakes I'm afraid. If you need the car badly , I wouldn't do anything until you get a proper inspection and diagnosis by an indie. And I certainly wouldn't be buying an ABS unit without def. confirmation that is the problem. If the ABS unit is faulty I would have expected an ABS light to come up on the dash - could be wrong though.

Yes, I understand

I would also guess that this would be the case with the ABS light.

When I dropped the car off everything was 'normal' with the brakes apart from the non-sensitive brake pedal, but this has been like this for many MOT's and it has never been flagged up by anyone. So unless they have been doing something else with the brakes like the master cylinder then I don't see a reason why there would be a difference from when I dropped it off to now as the rear brakes were working...

You just needed to add the word "Wind" as the last word of the title and it would have been perfect. 😄

🤣🤣 Best Post Ever🥇 - except now I have to try and clean out my keyboard having involuntarily ejected a mouthful of my breakfast coffee into it.
