Going away with the caravan for the week, I had never towed the van with the Merc before and was looking forward to feeling the torque of all 3000cc's.
Things went like this;
1 Reverse car to caravan.
2 At right point stop and engage parkingbrake to stop the slight roll back( I never normally use the parking brake).
3 Connect caravan to car, checking electrics etc.
4 All ready to go, select drive, press throttle..................... nothing happens.
5 Give it more juice, the caravan is well loaded.
6 Sh*t what's that bang.
7 Put it back it park.
8 Unhitch caravan.
9 Try to move car, no drive available.
10 Look underneath to find broken half shaft, F*&%£££.
11 Strip out broken shaft, where do I get one of these on a Sunday?
To be fair the shaft looks like it had thinned out where it broke due to corrosion and could have broken at any time. I just helped it along, at least it was right outside of my house when it broke.
Hope Eurocarparts have one in stock in the morning? Next time I WILL CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE!!!!!!
