Been looking at a change on the 5g 722.6

Just the oil pan 4litre, not the torque converter.

it seems to me to not be that much more difficult than an engine oil change.

So here's my plan.

Get the box slightly warm.
Drain oil.
Remove oil pan.
Change filter, magnet, gasket.
Clean up and replace pan.
Measure drained oil and replace with same amount fresh.
Work the box through the gears while stationary to get the fluid dispersed.
Go for a good drive.
Check the 80 degree level and top up with warmed fluid if necessary.
Check for leaks.
If all ok, lock the fill pipe and job done.

Obviously I'd make sure the torque was right on the nuts and do them up in the right sequence.

Anyone done this?

Sounds good although how you going to do this: "Check the 80 degree level and top up with warmed fluid if necessary". Unless you have a dipstick?

And you missed out the bit about tipping 1/4ltr of fluid up your sleeve when you drop the sump :D

Just done my W203 on the drive today.
Your list of steps looks fine. That's pretty much what I did.
I drained almost exactly 3.5L.
After comments in the forum about seized pan bolts, I checked I could loosen all of them before draining the ATF.
Take time to latch up the new filter into the small locating hole. The filter should go in with a "snap" and be stable.
You are best using a torque-wrench when doing up the bolts as 8nm is not very tight.

Go for it.

The only thing I'd add is clean the pan and surrounding area before removing the pan. It will be squeaky clean inside and you want to keep it that way.

I haven't done one of the newer boxes but I take it they no longer have a drain plug on the torque converter ?

Cheers all. Yes I'll have a dipstick, lol
