I have extremely mixed feelings about the Philippines disaster. What I believe it has done is to highlight the vast disparity between rich and poor in that country. Many have been made homeless but how much of that is down the majority of homes effected being flimsy tin sheds in essentially shanty towns? Many are starving but how many of these people/children were on the breadline already--poor families with far too many children , perhaps the influence of the predominantly Roman Catholic religion? The national government , criticised for being ill prepared in the latest emergency may still be influenced/manipulated by the CIA to maintain the "status quo" of vested interests which might otherwise have meant an improvement for many Philippinos?
