Well where do i start!
My other halfs clio dci 80. after a new engine was fitted because it was cheaper to do this than to sort out damage cause by a cam belt failure
engine 900 plus 400 to fit.
The car came back to us and we were told like new.
next morning it took ages to start. would not come out of idle for two minutes or so. (fly by wire).
so off to the garage again. they tested the high pressure pump and it was not in the limits of manufacture recommedations, i wanted to see the test and they were right, so 500 for the pump 100 per injector x4 200 labour job done. got the car back not job done, so off to the garage again this time not so nice me, we were told no charge but the fuel filter needed changing just the cost of the part "fine" 30 quid. next morning still the same, back to the garage, this time new fuel lines from the filter to the high pressure pump . i told them this was silly but ok if it sort this problem out and i mean sorts the problem out i would not be spending any more money , well my missis not spending.
any way friday got to the garage was meet by the guy doing all the work with a smile all sorted sir its cold you try it which i did fired up first time . thank god for that .
well sunday morning needed to use her car as my c36 is in body shop ,and o my god it didnt start !!!!!!! same again idle for about a minute at 400 rpm and thats the second or third time on the key.
so dont feel bad just dont what ever you do buy a clio dci 80 on a 2002 plate yes 2002 im scared to do the sums on what we have spent.

Bad luck. One of the not so good things about reading reports on formums like this is you become much more aware of what can, and does, go wrong!

by no means do i know about cars but couldnt you have robbed the parts off the old engine to save on materials

I'm also surprised this couldn't happen but now wonder about either an air leak or the lift pump being duff.
I'm not sure but think the Clio uses an electric lift pump in the tank. If it doesn't run the high pressure pump will struggle.

Moral of the story. Change the cambelt on time.

lift pump

lift pump!!!no body has mentioned this b4 . as for the other bits they were off the old engine injectors pump and lines but still had to factor that they cost us .
is there a check on the lift pump i can do???

I learnt many many years ago never to buy anything from the families of Renault,Peugeuot,Citroen or Fiat.
Not only do the cars lack integrity and build quality but their respective dealers are some way short of the mark too.

If I was advising anybody today who was spending their own money, I would suggest that they only look at Toyota or Kia or Hyundai.

Given the number of cars made by Toyota, their reliability record and or customer service record is outstanding and the 7 and 5 year warranties respectively given by Kia and Hyundai are second to nine.

Regards
John
