Don't know if you guys will be interested...

what I also dont understand is how that can be a barry ford sierra sat on the street... the exterior is as it came from the factory, the only difference is the wheels, needed to accomodate the larger brakes...

No, I don't think you're explaining it badly at all. It is as you said, all about choice.

For instance, my enjoyment of motoring comes from working with a car's inherent idiosyncrases, rather than necessarily improving upon them.

Not much beats the fun of twirling an early MG Midget around damp country lanes at what are fundamentally low speeds. It takes a fair bit of skill to do it well, but if you fluff, nobody's going home in a box.

Ultra-modified cars really don't push my buttons.

It's probably an age thing... :(

Some cars just look "barry" from the factory, most of Rover's MG offerings for example ;)

no offence meant. just calling it as I see it.....

but the bodywork is there for a reason... the escort cosworths were used both with and without the whaletail as the cars handled much better with the downforce yet they did knock near 10mph off their top speed so they were used with and without for different purposes. The bonnet vents are as with any car, to reduce underbonnet temperatures from something that may only be a 2.0 but has a hell of a high output with the turbo strapped to the side of it. And the arches and wide body to accomodate the wider track width. Its all there for a reason and not to look barry. You have to remember the sierra cosworths were designed for driving pleasure, not comfort and refinement....

thats a lovely car, ive always loved the cossies! I once nearly put a cosworth engine on my fiesta turbo, got to the stage where id bought the engine, but then backed out, and sold everything!

that car has had alot of hard work put into it... and money!

I don't think anyone needs to defend this guy, he has clearly demonstrated his passion for the marque. I agree that it does not fit my definition of Concours, but by crikey the car is absolutely spotless.

I read the whole thread from beginning to end and although the car has only managed 4500 miles per year for this persons ownership, those miles have not been acheived at a crawl. He has thrashed it at Santa Pod and other locations, plus there is a very nice telephone camera image of him belting down the offside lane of a busy motorway.

I believe he has spent in excess of £50,000 on the car and it has failed to reach an undisclosed reserve on Ebay. I am certainly not going to speculate on the reserve or whether the car is worth the asking price, I simply respect the hard work that has clearly gone into the car.

I doubt if it will ever depose the Mk 1 Lotus Cortina as THE Ford classic, but some folks clearly like it and to have TWO bare shell resprays is expensive!

Once it gets a bit of oil and dirt on it I wonder how much that will devalue it by?

8.15pm Wednesday - just had a look at the forum - 621 members on line - wow! No shortage of Ford owners then

I have spent the last 10 mins looking at that car. Not a great Ford lover but....................you have to admire the engineering that has gone into that car. Cleanliness? Puts a lot of ours to shame irrespective of how much work we put into them. Maybe the guy has lots of friends in the business?, but it doesnt detract from the fact that some serious money and time has gone into its preparation. Gets a nanna from me :bannana:

Haha - that's what most peoples memories of Sierras are. My dad had a Champagne Gold estate A710 BPN - wasn't one of his best choices!

Not entirely true. The Sierra Cosworth came about as a last ditch attempt to get a rushed entry into Group B rallying - the wing was so essential to the car it had to make it into the production version (to meet homologation and therefore entry rules) - something the bean counters weren't best pleased with.

To this day it remains hideous and encompasses everything that is now deemed Barry. Fair play to the guy for the effort he's put into it - obviously loves his car, but at the end of the day, no matter how much you polish a t**d, it's still a t**d :(

WOW!! Stunning!!

Someone said they liked the 405BHP sticker on the wing, but I winced at that. Just shows different things tick each of our boxes.

My father-in-law had an RS500 and RWD Saphire back in 1988 - had them both from new. Incredible cars. Strange, I remember the performance of both as being in a different league to my AMG - that said, I was sat in the back, and I was 12!!

A mate also had a 1985 Series 1 Escort RS Turbo, that literally had a 100 or so miles on it - bought it from a collection. He had it in the early-90s, and IIRC when he sold it, he had some nutter phone him in the middle of the night, and conversation went something like this:
Mate: "ZZZZZZ, hello, groan"
Caller: "I have a question about your RST"
Mate: "It's a bit late!! Can we talk tomorrow?"
Caller: "It's just the one question"
Mate: "OK, what is it?"
Caller: "Did you know I'm sitting in it?"

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Turned out to be a prank, but talk about scary!!

I must say that is one amazing car and all credit to the owner.

Some of the comments on here do make me wince though. I owned one of these cars and still miss it now. They are a classic and in no way shape or form is that car Barry. Those of you calling it Barry clearly do not know the meaning of the term.

The original 3 door has more sporting heritage than most Mercedes models can dream of. It was a first in many ways and although there are a few parts of that particular car I personally don't 100% approve of it is still an amazing car.

I agree Plodd. I have always wanted one when I was a young lad. Wanted the 2 door model and not the 4 door saloon and in Moonstone Blue. If I had one I would have kept it completely standard. These cars will only appreciate in value.

I was also very close to buying an Imperial Blue Escort Cosworth once. To this day I have never owned a Ford though.

£100 for a years motoring. Thats what I call VFM :bannana:

I cannot believe how people can be so critical of that car. It is stunning hats off to the dedication and work put into it. At Trax in september there was an X reg XR3 in the horid Ford Orange colour. I sood looking at it in amazement at how clean it was and the work that had been put into it.

Gets nanas from me :bannana: :bannana:

For those who need to check before they call this Barry please see this video for the meaning of Barry :p
