OK its a BMW 520d manual 2007 model wiith 80k on the clock.

Yup its a BMW, I KNOW.......... please dont tell me what your itching to type (that includes you sonny:D)

So day 3 of ownership..

Well its great but does have a whine when going through the box under engine braking, say your in 5th and lift the go pedal and without dipping or selecting another gear allow the vehicle to slow.

Dip the clutch and whine goes away, lift the clutch and whine comes back.

Heard it when I test drove it but kinda got carried away with the moment (had nothing to do with the 20 somthing sales rep) and bought it anyway thinking Id just use the 3 month warranty:doh:

Any ideas though what it could be folks, help and KINDNESS appreciated:D

^^^ Makes a change from 'ello, 'ello, 'ello.

Watch out, CM - he's got a truncheon (sorry, side-handled baton).

There is a whining noise in my car when under hard acceleration.

I ignore her.

We now have silly little 21 inch triple extension friction lock battons, you be as scared as a car arial being waved in your face;)

Nice car but the 520d and 320d Manual's do come with a few problems. The noise you describe is probably attributable to one of 3 areas at this mileage

Clutch release bearing
Dual Mass flywheel
Gearbox input shaft bearings (although this only normally occurs 100k +)

My money would be on the dual mass flywheel not very often the clutch components fail.

Some people might get very excited with someone in a motorcycle policeman's outfit started waving that sort of thing in their face.

But not you Charles.
