Door lights

Hi all i have a 2004 CLK270 & have a light at the base of the front door but they don't light up when i open the door . Any ideas why & how to fix?

Have you tried it when dark? My e class only lights up when it's dark.

yes i've checked when its dark & the bulbs are not broken too

Can't say that I've ever noticed lights in my doors. - Is there a possibility that there's no loom there and the previous owner put bulbs in hoping they'd work?

If you find a solution, I'll have a crack at it too.

On my A200 2006, door courtesy lights come on regardless of the time of day. It goes out in about 5 min, if the door is left open.
As PobodY says, the easiest way to check, is to remove the light, and see if there's a wiring in place.
It is also possible to look up a wiring diagram for your car, and if there's an easier access to the door control module, check to see if the relevant wire goes out.
