If i try to use the key to manually unlock the passenger door, the key turns both ways easily enough, but it wont unlock the door,(works in the boot lock ok) any clues guys ? :dk:

hmm, so presumably iv got to take the interior door trim off to find that out ? thanx for replying nick.

Thanx Nick, i'll take a look when iv time, later in the week.

You need a rather long allen key to clear the shell of the door! I have had this problem and it's difficult to sort out so it works properly. If I can be any help feel free to ask.

Iv found a guy with a secondhand lock, please tell me, if i buy this will i be able to change the centre so that my original key will work it ?

To be honest, I would speak to an Auto Locksmith! He would be able to advise you better! If memory serves me correct, The is a small pin that drifting out that may cause problems. They wouldn't actually change the centre of the lock, he would just fit your pins/tumblers to the new case/body. Just noticed your user name, So there is another piper on board?

Yes provided it is the same as you’re broken lock.
As para alpha says, a locksmith could swap the levers from your broken lock into your replacement lock so your key will work in it or if you are good at taking things apart then you can do it yourself

If you can put up a picture of the replacement lock I can talk you through it.

Have you established that the lock key hole bit as described in post #4 is actually broken?

One other thing that I forgot to say is that you will need the key to the replacement lock in order to dismantle it, the seller might not want to give you the key but he may loan it to you.

I’m 99% certain about this, if you don’t have the key then you cant remove the barrel from the replacement lock, however a locksmith would be able to pick the lock in less than a minute in the absence of a key.

Thanks Para Alpha for your help, i can see im gonna struggle with this job, assuming this is the trouble, i aint had a 36 hour day this week yet ! ! Yes im a piper, weddings, funerals & parties ,as long as i get 1st choice of the bridesmaids, You said 'ANOTHER piper', do you mean you play too ?

Thanx for all that DEC, no, i havent had time to start on it yet, just trying to get my head in gear for it. Nick Mercedes seems to think this is the trouble though. The secondhand lock in question is item 110389568451 on e-bay, if it is, can you recommend a locksmith in the club, cos i could always do it by post if necessary. John

No, the one on ebay is the main body of the lock, located inside the door.
The part you want is removed from outside the car, the section that you want is about 2 inches wide and an inch high, the keyhole is in the center of it.

When this part is extracted from the door there will be a shaft coming out of it, it is this shaft that is probably broken but it will be wise to have a look at it first, so as you know what it looks when you buy a new one.
Take a picture of it.

thanx for your info Dec, yes, iv got a haynes (is it just me, or are they getting less informative than they used to be ? their pics certainly aint getting any clearer) I'll just have to be patient untill i find time to check/dismantle it. Thanx again for your input mate, John

Its on page 11* 18, Section 25 John, the pictures are desperate all right but it is useful at times.

The work that you need to do is from the allan key picture plus the 3 pictures at the bottom of the page. The rest of the handle, you can leave alone.

LOL, Yep, been playing for 23 years! I was until recently the Pipe major of a local band, did that for 10 years. I had my user name changed from piper to para alpha. Because the guy who took over the PM position was Stalking me and followed me around various forums causing trouble. That's sorted now. I served with 3 para from 1989 to 1992. The reason for joining the paras, was the jock regiments had their full quota when I applied, Otherwise I would have been in the Highlanders regiment in the P&D's like my dad and grand dad (3rd generation piper). now back on topic, it's an alloy cast piece and there is an articulated rod that comes off it. The socket of the rod breaks and the rod dislocates and it won't operate the main latch mechanism in the door. Its a right PITA.
