Hi
After some nutter decided to smash my driver side door mirror glass, I thought it would be really simple to source a replacement - but not so!

My W210 E220 CDI (registered 4/2002) is now confusing me for numerous reasons and I hope those more knowledgeable might spare me some help.

Does having the flashing door mirrors mean this is an uplift model? Should I be looking for aspheric (didn't know the word existed until this week!). Where do I find out what part number is relevant to my car? Am I looking for 7 pin, 9, 11 or 13 pin???? Nothing is simple, is it?

Many thanks.

Hi,
That age of 210 will be the facelifted model.
If you only require the glass you only need to know whether you have the dimming option or not as heated glass was standard.
The various amount of pins, I think will be referring to how many pins/wires you have going to the mirror frame plug/socket.
The mirrors have varying amounts of cabling depending on what options are fitted, ie, folding, memory, dimming options.
If your car has,nt dimming, folding or memory option fitted, then I believe you need the 7 pin one.
You require,
3 pins for glass movement,
2 pins for heating,
2 pins for the indicator,
The above will make up the 7 pin and is the minimum you will have.
Extra pins/cables will be required for the following options,
2 pins for folding
2 pins for dimming
and by a process of elimination the last 2 pins must be for memory.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the reply-that's a great help. The mirrors are folding but I'm not sure if they dimmed. I'm not aware if they have memory; all I know is I used to open them by switch and close them the same way.

I keep on scouring for a part no. and I might watch Ebay a while longer. It is suprisingly difficult to get used to not having the mirror when overtaking!

many thanks

Mark

Is the interior mirror auto dim (it should be), if so the drivers door mirror should be also.

Hi Dieselman

You are right - the interior mirror does dim so I guess I should look for dimming door mirrors, so that will be 11-pin mirror glass... unless it gets expensive! If it has memory, I never worked out how!

I did go into a motor factor shop and we both stared at the replacement glass options available.....and got confused with what should go in there! Some glass was for 98-2003 and then some was 2002 onwards so a bit of an overlap. Then throw a few pin options and whoa......-mind-blowing.... how can you guess what fits with so many options!!!!
Where's that crystal ball when ya need it!

just a point,if this is the drivers door mirror then it makes the car unroadworthy as this is a MOT fail point,i know this as i had a hire car & the drivers door mirror was knocked off by a passing car,on ringing the hire co. they immediatly sent me a replacement car as i was informed it was illegal to drive with out it.hope this is of some help.

good point - I did drive it without realising the police are really hot on missing mirrors. I can understand why because it really is quite difficult getting proper view over the shoulder before pulling out. Merc advised me to sort it out quick and I have to say I went straight to Car EuroParts. However, it is cheaper to buy it online from them using the mbclub discount code - 25% off. Delivery is free anyway. The replacement glass was about £42. Top tip - With the mirror folding in, there is a spring clip on my car, which allows the mirror cover to slide right off - so much easier to fit using YouTube as a guide.
