Dissappointed in having to have a second "go" at shutting the doors on my w210 facelift. What I deem normal force to shut the doors always seems to result in having to have another attempt. Any suggestions? Obviously any kind of grease on the door catches isn't desirable as it may get onto clothing.
I've always associated Mercs with having that nice "thud" when shutting the door on a good solidly built car. :(

If its really that bad you could drop the window a touch before you shut the door.

You are absolutlely right, it is the same with my father's 190E and my '94 C250D with closed windows, especially for the driver's side door.
I think the cabin is so "closed", that the air cannot escape-> the pressure increases->you need more "force" to shut the doors. (May the force be with us. ) :)

In my mum's BMW they had to re-hinge the doors twice for the shut to be acceptable.

On my Metro they adjusted the position of the locks and catch.

This seems to work.Bit of a pain though, still means doors seal properly,I suppose. :)

I know just how you feel. We have a newish car and had to use 'excessive' energy to close particularly the drivers door.

Car went back to dealer, "Oh no sir, it's operating perfectly"

A couple of weeks later there mobile techician came out to attend to a few niggly problems the dealership could not fix. I lay on my stretcher watching him fix various problems and when he attempted to close the drivers door, it 'bounced' and only shut on the first stop.

"Got Yuh!!!" I shouted. The technician looked startled, but I grinned and explained that the dealer had stated there was nothing wrong with my car and the doors were shutting perfectly!!!!! The technician had tried shutting the door several times and each time it 'bounced' only to shut on the first stop.

He then slackened off the adjusters and eventually adjusted the door to close perfectly. He then checked the other doors and made some slight adjustments.

WHY are dealers letting vehicles pass the PDI with doors that do not shut correctly????

Go back and politely demand that the doors be adjusted to your satisfaction.

Good luck,
John
