Our summer season is drawing to an end and soon it will be time for us to go into winter hibernation.

Does anyone know where I can download the most recent movies for free?

You absolutely must NOT get yourself a torrent client like microtorrent, and you should avoid sites like piratebay.

As some of these files may contain viruses, anyone who is naughty enough to download tham should NOT transfer them to a seperate disk and cheap media player such as can be obtained from Maplins.

You forgot to warn him about the perils of Vuze (aka Azureus - cleverly disguised). Unfortunately Google are badly legging behind on blocking access to these sites so shockingly you can still find them by searching. Unbelievable.

In the UK, the main sites you can use to download films legally are as follows:

iTunes (Apple - iTunes - Everything you need to be entertained)
Advantages
Offers a wide selection of films to choose from including selected films in High Definition (HD).
You can watch the films via your computer, iPhone, iPod or Apple TV.
Includes special offers such as the “Season Pass” which gets you a whole season of a TV show, past or present, at a discounted price.
Is compatible with Mac and Windows computers.

Disadvantages
Requires an iTunes account.
Many videos and video podcasts currently require the latest version of QuickTime, which is incompatible with older versions of Mac OS.

Advantages
Has over 2,000 full length films, TV episodes, documentaries and sports titles as well as a range of free downloads, viral videos and shorts.
You have the choice of high quality (VHS quality) or super high quality (DVD quality) movies.
When you buy a film by downloading it, the license allows you to transfer the film to one portable video device, for example a video walkman.
In most cases, when you buy (rather than rent) a film LoveFilm will also send you a copy of the original DVD disc to keep!

Disadvantages
The software is not compatible with Apple Macs.
It does not yet offer movies in HD.

Advantages
Offers standard definition and HD movies including 720p/1080i resolutions.

Disadvantages
There is a limited choice of films.
It requires an Xbox360 console plus Xbox Gold membership which costs £39.99 a year.
Whichever of the sites above that you use to download a movie, you will not be able to burn this movie to DVD. This is due to Digital Rights Management (DRM). If you like to feel you “physically” own the film, then LoveFilm’s offer of sending you the DVD once you have paid to download it is attractive, however this is not available for all titles.

Now... not sure how this applies to Greece... In the US, Amazon, Blockbuster, Netflix and iTunes are the top legal movie downloading sites but unfortunately their services (apart from iTunes) are not yet available in the UK.
