Car
E280CDI SPORTS ESTATE and C200 KOMPRESSOR SE Coupe Auto (1.8 lit petrol)
I have the above car, which is now a front-end write-off, but has about 80 quids-worth of diesel in it.
Can anyone guide me to the best way of draining it off for re-use.
Thanks in advance.

Can you run the engine, if so pull off the return pipe and run it..have large cans handy as it will come out quickly.

If you can't run the engine just syphon via the filler neck.

I'd go for option 1 as it involves a running engine so is more Boys Toys...

I used a little electric pump to drain the tank few time.
Any spare by any chance?
I am looking for the little cover at the back of the centre console, underneath the vent.
Cheers.

I haven't tried to fire it up yet.
Need to check the coolant and check that the fan is clear of the rad.
I'm hopeful.
I reckon the engine will be undamaged, from the very rapid inspection I have made.
I am breaking for spares, if anyone is interested.
I'll shortly post full details on the "For Sale" section of the Forum.
I will be fitting switching the auto-transmission into our other E300TD.
It has a very sweet engine with 155,000 on it.
It's had regular oil changes and has never missed a beat in the 50,000 miles that I've had the car.
Sad about the car.
I'm happy to be alive.
It could have been so-much worse.

Olivier - Please be a bit more specific.
Am I sitting in the back seat and looking at the heater vent for the back seats ?
I'm not sure the part you mean, but, if it's there, it's yours for the cost of the postage.

He means the upright plastic piece that clips into teh back of the armrest unit, below the vents.

What colour dash speaker grilles, if anthracite I could do with the drivers side.

Hi John,
I was looking at the panel below the vents, but this is not an option anymore, just got bad news about one of my "new" tyre that need some attention and I cannot afford it :( then the spares are not an option anymore...
Sorry.
Thank you tho.
Olivier

If the car has had it , just drill a hole in the bottom of the tank , make sure you have some containers ready !!

if this is an estate, then just undo the tank strainer bolt at the bottom of the tank.... and let it drain into something. then maybe use the return-to-tank line to make sure completely drained.

The tank is in the boot space so there's a panel in the way underneath, so, just cut the flexible fuel line. Messy though.

I can vouch for the sweet engine :thumb:, John took me for wee spin as to compare to my engine, nice and quiet for a E300TD.

The car is a write-off.
I considered the tank-drilling method.
Problem is it's a full tank, and I wanted something a bit more controlled

DM
I'll check out the dash speaker grills.
It will be Monday.
The car's at Rodley Motors in Bradford, and I'm in Barnsley (for my sins).

Olivier
If you want the part, it's yours for-free.
Just cover my postage costs.
I'm in no hurry.
The car will be broken over the next 3 months.

A number of parts will be transferred to the other E300TD.
We'll give it a second lease of life !
Also - We've bought a 2001 E430 Avantgard.
It needs a few bits and pieces.
Some of the parts will transfer to that.
Hence my earlier query about removing the bonnet star.
That's now been transferred from the wreck to the E430.
The rest is up for sale.
This is the mess ... :(

Sorry about the photo.
I'll try again.

It's a bit beyond T-cut.
Unless it was for a stiff drink for me after the bump.

that looks nasty , just got myself a 300td , don't suppose you have a fuel shutoff solenoid going spare:)
if that was the damage to your car what was the other one like !

Hi Mikelkca.
The car that hit me was a Passat.
He bounced off me and hit another car on his other side.
The Passat is a write-off.

My car does have a fuel shut-off solenoid and it's only a year old.
Unfortunately, someone is having the engine, and I rather think that they'll expect the injector pump and the solenoid as part of the deal.
I'll ask the question.

Congratulations on buying an E300TD.
They are a good work-horse.
I still have a second one which is giving good service and clocking up between 20 and 25 thousand a year.
The only real problem with them is corrosion ... Both body-wise and underneath.

The engine and transmission are gone.
Another forum member is interested in the side mirrors.
The dash speaker grills are gone.

I have stripped off a few other bits and pieces for our other two e-class cars.

Let me know if there is anything else of interest.

That's half cut, surely? :D
