Great song but jeez things have got to be better than that for your children don't they. Aren't you as a parent supposed to hand over a better place for them to live in than what you had. Or does everybody have to start from a fresh, no development of a theme...??

What is thought of as a better place to live in? Just the roof over their heads or the whole environment? Could the inheritance be put to better use for everyone rather than just the fortunate individuals? That’s starting to sound too much like socialist unachievable ideals for me, so let’s think another way. Instead of leaving an estate for our children, how about spending less on our own possessions such as houses and instead putting the money into better education for the kids? They would then stand a better chance of being better equipped to progress faster in making their own way? Better education not only benefits the children who receive it, it must inevitably lead to benefits for society as a whole and eventually lead to better education for everyone.

The problems with education is that China for example are turning out how many Engineers a week....? You will not compete with that.
And, you need to find a work environment before you can capitilise on it, and even then the degree of capitalisation is dependent on so many factors. Far to risky. I am beginning to think an education is something for the third worlders to bring to us so we don't have to have an education budget. The old school should turn themselves into the ruling class [like the Arabs] and the new comers can struggle their way through in the new world to keep us served. Works well in the Middle East and is only fair if the third worlders really want a part of our lifestyle; they can work for it rather than have it handed to them on a plate made from MY inheritance.. Tis only fair when you think about it.

In a way that is what I shall be doing.

I have no kids and don't intend moving from my home until I (and the lucky Mrs) die.

Assuming that my Mother has died by then there is no one that I feel particularly deserves my life savings and house so it will go to something/someone who will make a difference to the world, however small.

Hopefully we have plenty of time to decide who will benefit, or maybe we should do nothing and let the government have it as they do need it to pay the bills.

Maybe I should commission a bronze statue of myself to be erected in the village square?

You don’t need to go as far as Ipswich, look up houses in the Northamptonshire country side. Truly stunning and only an hour down to London if you need.

An hour into London on a good day. I wonder how many of these people cannot get to work due to the weather? Screwed if your self-employed!!
