Hi everyone,

2003 CL600 W215 50K miles

Well, will have to put any thought of new wheels and sorting out the aircon to one side as it looks like I may have to replace one or both of the coil packs.

My hand-held code reader shows multiple misfires (not sure if one or both banks), engine check light is on and engine down on power, though still very driveable. Will take to specialist here for STAR diagnosis.

Last time I had this issue - which went away on its own! - they said it was the plugs, but I don't get that. I will have the plugs changed anyway as they haven't been changed for 8 years, though only covered 18K miles since then.

Have trawled through 'tinternet and, while the USA seems the cheapest, it's reported they won't sell to Europe?

Can anyone suggest/recommend a reliable and reasonably priced supplier of V12TT coil packs, please?

Also, how many hours labour should it take to replace, say, both coil packs and the plugs at the same time, please?

All advice welcome ........ I know this ain't gonna be cheap but looking to avoid being ripped off for dealer-priced parts. Labour over here is reasonable at c. £70/hour.

Thanks,

Stuart

That's fifteen minutes out of my life I'll never get back :D

Two minutes of information crammed into fifteen minutes, with every phrase repeated twenty times.

What the video does do ---in a somewhat long winded fashion---- is show exactly whats inside these units. Rather than adopt the approach of the YouTuber I would be inclined to dremel out a rectangular section of the flat plastic top- this would give access to the power transistors ??? and the bases of the cylindrical spark plug connections ---- I imagine those 3 soldered connections would be prone to breakage but easily repaired.
Repair effected it would a relatively easy task to furnish a flat replacement plate to glue back on. If the computer chip was toast that would make repair difficult if not impossible.

Thanks - had wasted around an hour of my life viewing the several videos on YouTube before posting here!

Without the proper diagnostic and testing kit, I'm not keen on the DIY approach. I gather I need a special tool for the plugs and the rear cylinders are troublesome, even for the professionals.

If I could get a ball park figure for parts (and source) plus labour, I can plan how to move forward.

Any thoughts on the ignition module? Some say (apologies to JC!) to try/replace that first/as well.

Any thoughts, please?

Thanks,

Stuart
