Now with the car back after doing the wings (I promise I will post pics when I get a chance) but have started to notice a little drive line shunt - going on and off the gas at 10 -15mph in stop start traffic - sounds mild distant thud - not when pulling away or when at speed.

I cannot find any previous threads on this - I have heard for example Land Rovers need an ecu update - other cars gearbox/engine mounts or can I hear a bit of movement on the diff. Or am I going totally nuts and they all do it. Car has done 80k mostly motorway miles and has been checked by Colin Ferns who says all ok/not worth bothering about. I am going slightly paranoid with this as the car is now 100%.

Hi John,

For starters, I'd check the flex discs (propshaft couplings/'Doughuts') and perhaps the engine mounts.

My CLK55 has similar mileage (72k) and there's no noticable shunt/slop in the driveline, so I wouldn't say it was normal from what you say.

Maybe get a 2nd opinion?

As Will says check engine mounts. That was the cause of my problem.
New engine mount sorted!

Thought I would bump this as your advise was correct - two engine mounts on the way out - so Brian at Colin Ferns is going to do them and gearbox mounts just to be safe!

Went to MB World yesterday to do an "AMG Experiance" for an hour (two of my mates bought it for me for my 50th!!!) - great fun - nice nice engine in the two cars I tried a C6.3 and a SL6.3 - the C was a bit more fun but the power steering fluid boiled (???) on the wet skid pan and no power steering. Great day out!

I'm in the tiny black blob in the background (a C6.3)

If only they'd put a manual transmission in AMGs!

I wish!!!! The box on both I tried were quite clever and held gears when cornering etc etc - I'm not sure how they did it but they did - even changing down a gear when braking HARD - paddles were quite clever but didn't always do what you wanted when you wanted and left you wondering what gear you were in!
