I had no idea such a scheme was in operation at Brooklands.

The interesting statistic is "A young driver scheme in Sweden that got kids of 16 behind the wheel reduced accident rates in the first year of driving by 40%".

My eldest son did 3 sessions when he was 15 a couple of years ago and I guess it helped a little. The biggest problem was that they were auto boxes and very few people these days go on to do lessons purely on auto. However, the fun factor was immense and he had a great time. My other son who is just 13 will be doing his first session in a couple of weeks time.

I got my first driving licence at 14 - not all countries force you to wait until 17 - so I think the scheme is quite a good idea!

Also the age is soon to increase to 18.
My son (15) is not best pleased.

Pass your test in Italy?

- I passed my first "test" (if you can call going to the police station and asking for a driving licence a test) at 14 in The Gambia (and got at IDP at 15 ).

- When I turned 17 I passed my British driving test

- Just before turning 20 I decided to get an Italian driving licence... the idea was to give the Italian in England and the English in Italy if ever stopped... haven't been stopped since
