Hi
I have a C class coupe C204 (62 plate) and need help on the following please.
Now that winter is coming and I tend to do more driving while the sun is either coming up or setting and I don’t think the conditions warrant all my car lights on. I am trying to get my sidelights and DRL on together only.
I tend to have my lights set to auto and during the day my DRL lights are on then at night all 3 sets of lights are on Main, Side & DRL. I have tried to see if there is anything within the setting for this but not getting this option, it either DRL’s on or off.
I would appreciate knowing if anyone else has had this issue and if there is a way of having just sidelights and DRL’s on.

welcome to MB Club

Why worry? Better to have more lights on surely. It doesn't cost anything to be seen, especially at dawn and dusk when a low level sun can blind out one's lights....

Hi Whitenemesis
Not worried just trying to see if that option is available or not.
:-)

Is it possible to switch the sidelights on via the main rotary light switch? Obviously you would have to remember to put you driving lights on as they wouldn't be on Auto...

Nobody should be driving with sidelights only.

It really annoys me when people don't use headlights.

Leave in automatic and be happy you have enough lights on. Oh and welcome to the forum nice to see you here.

In the U.S. Forum they've worked this out, a Canadian guy mentioned it... although the settings for the American w204's were different to the Canadian vehicles apparently. Surely there's a setting for just sidelights though, the DRL's are always set on I thought. So activating just sidelights then remembering to switch the headlamps on when needed would suffice

When you unlock your car in the evening which lights turn on as you approach the car? (Without headlights set to automatic)

I think it depends on the conditions. Sometimes it's easier to judge distance and speed without the glare of headlights. For me there should be lights to see with (headlights) and when the road is already illuminated, lights to be seen by (good side lights or perhaps the experimental dim dip headlights). When the roads become a competition for who can put out the most lumens whether they are needed or not then nobody is the winner.

Hi All and thanks for the comments. All appreciated.

I agree with you about sidelights thus I would like my side and DRL on together as sometimes it doesn’t warrant full headlights.

Yes this is what I have currently left it at but would like the option to change if possible.

I will try to see if I can locate the mail from the Canadian guy (do you know his name by any chance) if possible.
There is a position for the knob to be on sidelights only but when set my DRL’s go off, just leaving sidelights only.

I agree with your comment as this is why I would like to try and get my sidelights and DRL’s working without full headlights. I know from last year when the lights set on auto my Mercedes tends to put them on even when it’s not even warrant (my opinion) for full headlights.
