Droning noise from 7G box

Hi guys.

Went and bought CLS320 Cdi 06 plate from the dealers. Its got 40k on her.

Im not happy with the Gearbox as it makes drowning noise at 2000 rpm when accelerating.
The dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. The head technician is happy with how the car drives.

She has had an oil n oil F change and the latest software update for the box. After the update the changes are very smooth. Before the update they were jerking on the down changes.

Off the subject i am loving the warranty, she has a window regulator, parking sensor, ball joint and oxygen sensor replaced all for free :thumb:.
but not happy with front alloys buckled which are not covered under warranty . At least that explains the vibrations at 90mph

Any idea on the gearbox guys?

Have you got air suspension?

If so the compressor kicks in from time to time and have a groaning noise for a few seconds.

unfortunately these do sometimes make the noise you describe.. unless it is accompanied by some shaking then it probably is ok...

If the car shakes then the torque convertor is on its way.

No air suspension

No the vibration from the tyres/wheels.

Are you sure it is the 'box. Tyres can cause this too.

Well the dealer said its the wheels. they are buckled.

Lastly thanks once again for the replies guys.

Check the tyres for "feathering" and odd wear.

How long have you had the car? Was it sold with buckled wheels? If so they are not fit for purpose.....

Hi, I too have a 06 CLS320 that has an excessive droning noise that is most noticible between 40-70kph, the noise id like the sound you get when blowing over the top of an empty bottle. I have had it back to the dealer twice and they have no answer to it. They say Merc have had some complaints about it but that they are in the minority. I have driven two other 06 CLS320D's and thay both have the exact same problem, I cannot believe that anybody would just accept it ??.

Not sure where to go from here with it.
