Joined and lurked a little while ago....After much thought I have a SL500 R129 on my 'present to myself' list - all work and no play etc. Also I said to the wife she could have a mercedes one day ! Current vehicles are BMW 320M touring which we love - had loads over the years, Ford Ranger which is kinda work related and a Bond Bug !! (due for restoration but had it for nearly 35 years and off the road for most of that time) So something with a bit of style, grace and comfort - I think the SL500 will fit the bill. Just need to find the right one now....

Welcome to the forum Doug, nice choice of 'present for yourself'.
You aren't too far from me, I'm near Aycliffe. The wife has a Ranger too, great pick-up :thumb:. Are you on any Ranger forums?

Hi - We're actually just outside Barnard Castle - but Durham was easier to put since no-one knows where BC is ! Got an 09 MK3 Ranger Thunder - had a Mk2 which we also liked a lot but the wife tried to run a snowplough off the road (which didn't work) and it was written off (She was fine) Just joined a Ranger FB page which is quite good. The rear diff pan on mine has rusted through - can you believe it !! It's like they make them out of baked bean cans...so need to get a Landy HD one and weld it on. Good fun in the snow !!

Welcome to MBCUK, betcha more people have heard of Barnard Castle than Wheatley Hill where I grew up?

If you choose the Home page then MBclub Community then Events and check the Northern Meetings options you might be able to get along meet others? They're a great group of knowledgeable owners (except me of course), enjoy:thumb:

I don't see why not, but I'm not the one to ask. Kindly open the Northern Meetings page and you'll find the first event at Eden Camp on Sunday 14th April being organised by Andy1a2b!

Hope to see you there ...

I don't know anything about Mk2 or Mk3 Rangers but plenty of members on the forum below do. It's a little slow of late, I believe many of the members are now using the Stalkbook page (like yourself). There is a Ranger meet being organised in the midlands area around summer time if you fancy it.

And of course as Shaun (Sprint-Man) mentioned above, plenty of MB meets on the go.

Good luck with your search for an SL500

    That one
Barnard Castle is a beautiful place!

I bought a LR Discovery 3 from a very nice gentleman there about 6 year ago, great motor that didn’t cost me a penny.

Thanks very much - I might have to give it a clean - it's pretty used and abused and full of rubbish most of the time!

It is a nice area.....I've never hear of a LR not costing a penny before - I suspect that is super rare ;-)

Just had to look up Wheatley Hill ! Lived around here for quite a long time and I didn't know where it was either. Bit out of my normal area.

How you gentlemen of aristocracy live eh?

I just have my old W209 (only 47,400 miles on the clock though!) for everything and a boiler suit for any dirty stuff! We poor pensioners ' doff our caps ' in subservience

I guess there are always going to be a few - I was told about a brand new top of the range range rover that broke down and had to be recovered less than 5 miles from the dealer...My ranger gearbox failed shortly after I got it (but the general build quality of the rangers is pretty poor IMHO) - Our BMW however just ticked over 250,000 and has hardly missed a beat (touch wood) Just had one wheel bearing replaced as it was irritating me with a little rumble and the rear shocks etc. nothing major. The service indicator won't reset though which is annoying and nobody knows why - BM said they would be very happy to have a look but would charge their standard rates (no thanks) with no guarantee of a fix....I've promised her a really good valet for her quarter mill !
