This and that.
I want to backup some DVDs, and possibly to burn them to blank disks.

I'm not going to sell them, or distribute them or anything, so you can save your collective breath on that. ;)

I just need a decent DVD ripper, and I'm sure you lot can point me at a suitable (free) one.

Thx

PJ

Are they Ok when re-burned? I don't want any quality loss if possible.

I've been very impressed with all my copies, though I only have a 23" TV.

With DVD shrink you can chose to delete options that take up unnecessary space, such as other languages and bonus features. This then maximises the space used for the main feature and minimises the amount of compression.

BTW: As a benchmark I use my laptop a T7200 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz with 2GB ram and a typical DVD takes 1.5-2 hours to compress and burn.

Oh.

My desktop's got a single-core Athlon 3400 running at 2.19Ghz, but only 1 meg of RAM.

Oh well. I'll have to see how I get on...

YEP - DVD Shrink for the burning is fine..

You could remove all the foreign language stuff and other addons on the DVDs and then increase the quality of the video etc, by using DVD Decrypter.
