I am wondering whether to go for a current style reg plate with "SLK" as the last 3 letters. They are all listed at £785 on the DVLA site. As someone entirely new to the world of personalised plates I was wondering if this is a bit pricey and nothing more than pure profiteering. There are plenty of other plates for a lot less but without the Merc connection. Do those of you with your own plates think this is a bit steep?

I have my eye on a 'select' registration if I get the CLK55. Its a £245 plate but it fits the bill perfectly ( for me anyway)!

Well, as they know SLK is a model of car and that there will be higher demand for plates bearing those letters, more is charged than for plates with less demand. The whole point of the DVLA selling plates is to make money. What's the problem with that?

My wife bought me a plate for Christmas with which I'm really happy, and it cost £245.

DVLA price also includes everthing to put on your car except actual plate.

Other sites ask for vat, higher prices to start with then add the transfer fee.
