Hi and happy New Year to all users,

this is my first post so hopefully there is not already an answer posted that I have missed.
PROBLEM: Sat Nav displaying a 'reading error' and invites me to insert another DX disk. I have used a CD cleaner in the hope that the lazer was dirty but no joy there. When inserting a music CD again a 'reading error' is displayed. However no problems with the 6 disk multi changer which is playing fine.

Spoke to MB dealer and the answer is quite simple 'buy a new Comand system?'

I'm sure there must be some reputable auto electical repairers out there who could diagnose and repair my system. Vehicle is a 53 plate CLK 270 Cdi and I'm in the Glasgow area but happy to post the system.

Had the reading problem with the E55, luckily using the cd cleaner did the trick.

I did find out a few places that would be able to change the defective cd laser/reader on the unit - I believe there is someone on this forum that specialises with Comand units.

I'm sure you will hear from someone soon enough with more valid info.

UPDATE - I think the person you want to speak/email is Alfie [email protected]

If I read this correctly you are trying to use a music CD in the front slot of the command unit ? My understanding is this slot is for NAV cd's only ?

My Audio 50 unit will happily play music CD's in the '7th' slot :D

Front slot reads either music or navigation Cds. There is someone who advertises in the club magazine as being able to repair Comand units. Will try and find it later.

Thanks for that - I had assumed NAV CDs only. Learn something everyday here !

Cheers!

Thanks to all for chipping in.

CLKman - fantastic link I'm going to attempt the 'operation' next weekend.

I'll let you know how the patient gets on!

If no joy with DIY fix then these claim to repair them. Navdoctor Limited on Mercedes-Benz Comand Retrofitting.
Personally Id ask Richards advice first before trusting your unit to anyone else. Not aware that Richard or Alfie on Welcome to www.comand.co.uk actually do repairs.

Thanks again

Thanks for the additional information.
Hopefully I'll be successful with the MB labotomy! :thumb:
