I have issues with my 7G transmission which I hope you can help me with please. I own a 2011 E Class 350 CDI, 60K miles and perfect in every way. Today the gears were 'holding on' and not changing up through the box, at normal light throttle loading as they have done in the past. I am having to use the paddles on the steering wheel to 'enforce' the change up which are now jerky too. Plus I have lost the 'KICK DOWN' facility and unable to get power when asking for it with the accelerator . The car has behaved perfectly since I have owned it, until the past week. Any ideas as the car was serviced @ MB Sheffield about 1500 miles ago (4 months ago) and has been faultless in my ownership. Would truly appreciate any expert help on this. Thank you in advance.

It may not be a gearbox issue.

Engine problems can cause the gearbox to exhibit odd behavior.

The only answer is to have the car scanned by a Mercedes specialist who has the Star computer system.

There may be fault codes stored but regardless they will be able to look at all aspects of the gearbox and engine sensors etc.

It sounds as though your car is going into limp mode due to some kind of issue, not necessarily with the gearbox.
When was the ATF last changed and has the level been checked?

Edit, beaten to it;)

Thank you AMGeed. Unsure re last ATF change and wasn't aware it was possible to check the gearbox oil. Will have a look and revert. Thank you for your response.

Take it to a Mercedes specialist who has STAR diagnostic equipment.
He can check the ATF level at the correct working temperature and ensure the correct grade is added if low.

Many thanks DSM10000: I will look into this and revert. Excellent information.

Hi , I agree with this reply. The gear change on my 7+ gear box was good but I changed the serpentine belt on the engine and the change is now is excellent.

Interesting - how does the serpentine belt affect the automatic transmission? I thought the belt was only driving ancillaries such as alternator, coolant pump, AC compressor, etc?

I had 4 new tyres fitted yesterday, gear changes are now totally seemless.

Hi , I am just saying what happened when the serpentine belt was changed on my car.

My car has a smart alternator filled and when slowing down at slower speeds you can feel a braking effect.

Is the braking effect not from the brakes ? How are you slowing down if not ?

If so, then I am guessing that the alternator was faulty - and had been replaced (or repaired in some way) - but I don't think that simply replacing the serpentine belt would have made any difference on its own?

I have had a terra clean, a carbon clean, 2 new sensors. If I turn the car on, then off and on again the car runs as normal. Tho obd says the problem is the exhaust pressure sensor, but this has been changed twice with genuine merc parts.

Blocked inlet manifold swirl flaps from the terra clean dislodging gunk ?

All that has been apart and cleaned in the dishwasher. Before the terra clean. Swirl flap deleted.
