Diesel engine hanging-on to gears could also be related to PDF and regen issues.
Due to the oil cooler gaskets needing to be changed because of an oil leek. I had all new gaskets, new oil cooler while it was apart, all the top end cleaned by hand and then in the dishwasher, full major service. Terra clean, carbon clean. Hasn't fixed the problem.

Exhaust backpressure issues could cause the engine to continuesly try a PDF regen.

But before you go off to remove the DPF, clean it, and replace the DPF sensor..... who carried-out all the work so far? Was it an experienced independent specialist using genuine STAR with guided diagnostics?

Of course some faults are just fiendishly difficult to diagnose, and the garage may have done everything by the book.

BUT.... given the number of parts replaced in vain, I can't help but thinking that the garage are just replacing parts at random (at your expense) rather than invest in proper diagnosis before carrying out repair work?

Either way.... my advice would be to get someone with STAR who know what they are doing before attempting any more work 'on the odd chance' that it will fix the problem.

The mechanic who did the work is of a very high standard and has worked methodology through the problem but hasn't a star, only a snap on obd reader. I think a visit to mercedes is next. Thanks.

It could be a plethora of issues. Unless the ecu is scanned using the star there is no way to pin point. Waste of time guessing. OP, you have a Mercedes-Benz with command, not a Honda. No guess work here, you need to get this scanned at the dealership or an indie.

Then he is not of a high standard. No star, no Mercedes-Benz service. You are wasting our time, and your money. If you belive he is a high standard mechanic, why are you here? You are here because he failed you. You are here because you failed yourself, in seeking a correct workshop with a Star diagnostic computer. Instead of following the advise of anyone here to just find a star scanner, you are throwing parts at an unknown. These are not the pre fuel injection era cars where they lacked the advanced computing as today's cars. You need a damn Star computer, do you comprehend?

So speaks the Oracle....

FFS, Aidroos, wind your neck in. You make a valid point, but do you have to be so rude and aggressive doing it? The message is OK, but the medium isn't...

OP disappeared. Josie, has been here since the 19th of December, 2021. You're entertaining this nonsense for 2 long months failing a star scan. If it's not a waste of time what is it? Apologies for my rudeness to Josie, but you're not helping yourself.

Results matter.

I was asking if anyone knows what the problem is, telling me my mechanic isn't of a high standard isn't helpful. To say I'm here because I failed is insulting. So If you haven't got anything constructive to say I suggest you take your ill informed judgement elsewhere.

Ill informed judgement of getting the basic mercedes Benz Star scan, which you failed to get till date is the redundant factor here. Who certified your mechanic as a high class Mercedes-Benz technician is beyond any certification? Since they lack a proper STAR diagnostic computer. What is insulting is clearly you wasting every members time for free guess work, instead of getting a scan. You good Sir are a real failure here. You don't even comprehend any member's advice here to go to a real specialist with proper MB computer and tools, you are servicing this car outside the realm of MB, this is a lemon car now. None of the members are giving you any advice further, and I am one of them. You don't get this thing scanned and argue that you are right and so is your useless mechanic and blame the members here. Why are you still here? Neither you nor your mechanic can fix this lemon. Because you are stubborn and foolish.
Welcome to the real world of Mercedes-Benz. Instead of wasting time, still arguing over the internet, for over 2 months on a serious car problem, get a simple scan. I won't benefit or lose anything, incase you fix your car or win an argument here. It's your time, money, and car in the end, act wisely and dump your moronic ego to the ground 6 feet under.

None of the members, will call a STAR scan, as ill informed. Only an ill informed fool would.

When is your car scheduled to recieve its first ever STAR diagnostic scan under your current ownership? Finally you ditched your high class mechanic for a MB technician. Congratulations, God willing you car will perform to MB standards now.

Sorry but this kind of reply is both insulting and unnecessary and the type to drive both new and prospective members away.
It may be acceptable in Hyderabad but not in the UK. Got it?

As is hijacking a post of another person.

I'm pleased to say my mechanic has sorted the car. Running perfect. In case you end up having the same problem I will be as helpful as you have been. I will keep it to myself. Many thanks.

Perhaps you would be more helpful in telling me how I can remove myself from this forum. It would appear that you know everything about nothing.
