Hello guys!!

I am in serious thinking ... if not in love!!! lol ... with the 124 body convertible car.

I have at the moment a W124 200 E 89' model ... and the car keeps going and going, mind you it only has 106K on the clock.

I was thinking to give it to another careful owner and buy a convertible model ...

Now online (Autotrader) there is not much variety... as there are only 20 models for sale ... and 5 of them at least are LHD.

Are the E 320 good ones? what shall I look out for? I have never owned a convertible before...

Does anyone in the club have one???

Cheers
Vasilis.

I think the common view is that owners of these stylish vehicles tend to be discrete people, who prefer to hide their light under a bushel, so no-one is sure. Rumour has it that The Boss has one? Okay, hands up - so do I!

Approximately 800 220s and 600 320s were sold here, and the 320 commands a higher premium, like for like. The 220 is generally considered to be under-powered. Usual 124 problems apply regarding rust spots, and head gaskets/wiring looms need careful examinination on the 320 M104 engines, as these are the Achilles heel. Ensure that the roof function works properly and in co-ordination with the windows, and the rear headrests work okay. All common sense stuff, really.

There are lots of doggy one out there, but I've heard that the best one in the world lives on a trailer in Stanmore (and may be for sale?).

The museum in Stuttgart has that one - along with Princess Diana's old R129.

Having seen the The Boss's W124 Convertible up close and personal, I can vouch for it's splendour! This car of his is one superb machine in beautiful condition!! Honestly, it looks showroom fresh! (and no, I don't have a commsision deal with Boss! LOL!)

Keep up, Andy! - Stanmore is the epicentre of quality, which itself is the result of intelligent effort.

i can get you one for £40,000

a green one

best one in the world so im told, weekly

£40.000!!!!!?
Why do I think I would buy something else with this kind of money!! lol

I guess you are right it is going to be a long thread ... and long discussion! lol

I went and looked this last Friday, it looked really nice and solid with very good paint. The only things I did not like was the tires would need changing... and the roof had wear and tear marks on the back where the window is. But there is no hole... so I am not sure if water goes in...

I did not ask him to check the roof how it closes, opens as I only went for a quick look.

Hi.

if info on the change of front end can be found, then that would be nice. The car has had a new bonnet to update the faclift look and new rear lights, could suggest possible frontal impact or the owners preference was to update it.

Check to see if the headlamps were upgraded too or left as is.

The car is not one id personally go for, as for very similar money, there are some genuine facelifted ones about.

yes i know all have mentioned my car, but for anywhere from 7k - £12k, there are many about, and id shuffle this to the bottom of the list..

Just my opinion though!

I thought about the facelift after I posted the link to be honest Boss,
so most of your questions are mine as well

to be honest I am not keen on the colour and interior combination...
but I would love that one I linked here ... purely because it has same interior and body colour as my saloon.

And it is a '96 ... so facelift is genuine for sure ;)

Yup..

nice car, and its a sportline.. so something defo to keep in your consideration box!

My partner noticed a nice burgandy black interior e320 sportline with 73,000 on the clock in sw London on our road.. its disappeared again, but the reg was M300 JPH (got it from my cctv lol) - if you are able to source the car, it looked fantastic

A nice clean car and mushroom interior mmmmm
but 150.000miles and this price ... :(
Check the other one:thumb:
