The GL320 had to make another unplanned trip to the dealer today. One of the fixed rear windows had come loose and needed to be urgently secured. They had it for the day and it has had a few other things looked at; new gearbox software to address low speed jerking, battery cover to be secured, a couple of recalls (including the crankshaft sensor - this was changed in December (different dealer) but they keep telling me it hasn't been done!) and a look at the chrome roof rails which are now beginning to pit badly!

End result is that it is going back in on Thursday for a new airmatic pump (recall), new chrome roof rails (approved by MB UK) and a new battery cover.

This isn't the point of this thread....

They let me loose in their E350CDI Sport Coupe demo.......

I LIKE ... A LOT....

It looks fantastic, although the colour didn't do it for me (stannite Grey). The inside felt huge and was luxuriously appointed. It had COMAND, leather upgrade and the dynamic handling package. It drove very well, the acceleration from the V6 diesel was impressive and it went round a few Cumbrian corners like it was stuck to the road! Acceleration from the 231bhp engine was fantastic, not in V8 terms, but good enough for everyday driving.

I liked; the interior, very well appointed and a HUGE improvement on the current CLK. COMAND, it's much better than that fitted in the GL and I prefer the iDrive type setup. The maps are much better and I liked the 'birds eye' view. The seats are sporty and brilliant, and reminiscent of my W208 CLK55 with the seat adjustments all controlled by air.

I like the fact that, at last, things like Bi-Xenons, parktronic, bluetooth, heated seats and iPod connection are all standard.

Am I tempted.......??? I think it is a better car than the BMW 3 series coupe and the A5. I wouldn't mind a go in the E500 Sport Coupe!

that V6 diesel is due for significant changes .. need the ultra high pressure injectors which have made it into the 2.2 4 cylinders.

not seen any E coupes with the panoramic roof though

The V6 CDI engine had plenty of oomph, it felt very rapid. I thought it had already been updated from the 320CDI? The figures for the four cylinder 250CDI look pretty impressive too. However, the 350CDI has 7G transmission as standard whereas you pay extra for the 5 speed auto in the 250CDI which narrows the price differential to about £1800. This makes the 350CDI more attractive in my eyes.

I have seen pics of the pano roof, looks good, but as an option it is too expensive.

350CDi is basically the same engone as 320CDi, but with about 7hp more.

Agree that £1800 for a V6 is quite a good deal.

Panoramic roof is a must have for me ... that makes the car almost 'open air'. Would work very well with white car (and red leather)!

Does it look good in white? The only one I've seen so far has been that metalic brown colour, which actually really suited it.

D.

If it were me I would be having Obsidian Black (or the dark grey) and the Flamenco Red leather. Those two options alone add nearly £2000 to the price! Add the must have COMAND and the dynamic handling pack and that is another £2500, so, £4500 in options. Discounts of up to £2000 can be eaily found on the internet. :)

My dad really liked this at the Geneva show and more recently at the Cheshire show. Both cars in white 350Cdi sports.

Relatively cheap for what you get I think with almost every option he spec'd one at £42K

Looks very nice inside. He would have the roof for sure its lovely and really opens the car up. He had a 500SEC back when they were new and loved it. This car reminded him of that....even the seat belts come out to you...

Looks very nice inside.

The trim below the door to the rear wheel arch looks very cheap.

And the rear wheel looks like it's a size below that of the front!

And the parking sensors combined with the doubled light washer covers?

Why can't they design the package such that they hide or camouflage the the parking sensors?

I've had a go in the E500.

Same impressions as you re the E350CDI - but wow to performance. I know it's the same engine as my CLS, but it seems to have more umph - could be the weight I supose. The chassis is very nice, very sharp. The seats are my fave though - very stylish and lovely. Kid's also loved it ! Maybe in 2/3 years we'll get one - I'm curious to see what the cab looks like when it comes out.

Get a go if you can - it's a brilliant car. I so hope they make the AMG version.

shame the front sensors are nowhere near as elegant as the rear sensors

I thought MB already said no AMG E class coupe

I was told yesterday that there will be an E class AMG.

I like the Coupe in white, but sorry,........... I ain't brave enough to buy one in that colour!

We thought the same but with so many Silver cars it really looked nice.

It suits the shape, it looks to us very nice indeed for the money.

My dad if he went for one would go for a white one.....

He still loves his E320cdi estate and this in reality will do nothing more his does...

350 cdi

I have a white one on order (metallic) with Flamenco interior and panoramic roof. I have been told there is a problem at MB with both the colour and roof which means work won't begin on the car until December at the earliest.

Does anyone know what the issues are they would cause such a delay?

That said, I am very much looking forward to taking delivery, eventually...

Nice car- what colour is flamenco- is that the brown colour?
Afraid I don't know about the problems.
I am surprised about there being a roof prob as MB have been doing pano roofs for ages- its all the other manufacturers that have jumped on the bandwagon!

We had to wait three months for a B class last yr.

Welcome btw :)

Probably a tooling issue.

I waited 13 months for a CLK Cab once - so you're doing okay !

I hope you got some sort of compensation?? Was it worth the wait?
