OK, so our cars may not do too many miles but they do earm their keep :)

Today was a trip to B & Q and to build a frame around where I plan to put a play area, 26 * 2400mm deckboards.

Got me thinking that it is a very good bus really...even though I miss the high up driving of the ML. This can...

Do over 40mpg easily on any run out of town
Tow our van and still get nearly 30 mpg
Seat 5 (or even 7) in comfort
Carry as above long items (its had 3m length inside before...)
Will probably do 150mph 60 in around 8 seconds (maybe less now)
Looks great for the £

Yea, hauling in style.

And for the record, a full size office cabinet will fit, with the door closed!

I'd have tried a local builders merchants first. They can be considerably cheaper than Bodge it and Quit :)

And a single bed base and mattress (provided you remove the squabs).

Other's simply won't do that.

I've put 60 cases of wine in the back of our W124 perfect for the booze cruise or keeping customers happy.

Just don't do what my dad did in his W123? 280TE years ago.

Long piece of worktop, going from windscreen to back, 'balanced' on the passenger headrest. Who'd have thought that it would act like a perfect fulcrom, as the tailgate pushed the pack of the worktop down, and the front pushed out through the windscreen. Oops.

Or what I did when packing up a load of books....the last box didn't quite fit, but I thought if I gently lowered the tailgate it would squeeze it in......It didn't, it pushed the rear window out
