Considering I bought the car at the start of spring, I haven't really had a chance to drive it for long in the dark. So last night was probably the first time I had a good drive through the dark country roads.

I love the interior lighting, particularly the blue undersill lights, they really set the car off and provide a comfortable and relaxing environment.

The exterior lights are nice and the headlights are really bright, but I couldn't help but notice there is a distinct line between light and dark on both the drivers and passengers side, more so on the passenger side. For me it created a bit of a blind spot, particularly when turning left at a junction with a footpath. Is there a reason for this?

I also noticed the light spread more across the right hand side of the car and I had at least 6 cars flash me within a spate of about 30 minutes. I guess that comes down to the brightness of the bulbs.

Do you have the Intelligent Light System?
In menu options is the setting for car to be driven on left or right?

I think I have the basic xenons. I noticed the shield this morning when I had a look. In fact it almost looks as if the bulbs are on the shield and shine into the reflective plate, but I could be wrong.

As suggested earlier, check the settings are correct for 'driving on left'. Be aware that clicking 'ok' changes it, so just leave it once selected.

I thought AMG Sport had Intelligent Lights as std., they are on coupe, so assumed they would be on saloon/estate.

Here's mine. I did ask the garage because we drive to France on accessions and I was advised the car didn't have the functionality.

They look like partial LED lights to me. That is, the dipped beam is LED but the main beam is conventional H7 bulb. There is no adjustment for left or right driving it adjusts automatically. Main beam is also supposed to dip automatically when on main beam. I don't drive much at night but have fitted replacement H7 5000K bulbs but haven't had a decent nighttime drive to see if they are an improvement.

There's a distinct difference in colour between the white headlights and yellowish main beam.

On the very odd occasion I've noticed the headlights adjust themselves on start up, but I'm sure that was only down, then up.

If the car has intelligent light system then it will have it embossed on the headlight when you view it from top. It came as a standard option on my E class AMG Night Edition.

Those don't look like xenon lights.

They usually have a golfball-like lens in front of them, with the xenon cut-off shield behind it.

the model you have has

1- dipped beam - LED (nothing to do with ILS though) you would have a camera on your windscreen and that is not the case. The up and down you see at startup is the car certifying that the automatic light levelling is working. there is absolutely no adjustments you can do

2 - the main beam (as others already pointed out) is a normal H7 halogen bulb which (you guessed it) also doesn't have adjustments by the driver

But having said this of course all lights can be adjusted, just not be the driver. A qualified garage will be able to do that if at all that is really necessary

BTW E-class has no more Xenon lights since the initial W212. The later W212 had LEDs or Halogen and the W213 has only LEDs

Prefer my xenons to be honest. Mine is the pre-facelift but with the straigh line DRLs and the new type steering wheel. It's got the ILS and is absolutely brilliant. I get in a car that don't have turning lights when you turn and it seems weird now.
