Can anyone help. For some reason I am having trouble reading the display of the radio/CD player during the day. At night it seems Ok, but during the day I have to get really close ! The headlights are off and so I am assuming it is not some sort of auto dimming system linked with night driving - anyone any ideas?

Heres a pic from google of what it should look like.

    Give this a try.
With your lights on Turn the speedo reset knob/ button that should darken/ lighten the display :bannana:

If that works great! If it doesnt, i've just spoken to our friendly MB mechanic, who said they dont usually have that fault- comand does but not audio 20. He said if you bring it along to the gtg he'll have a look for you. Is the car still in warranty?

Yes the cars in warranty, but on the 11th I'm in Paris and so caannot make the GTG.

I tried the dash light dimmer switch but does not seem to effect the radio.........

    Thanks for the ideas though

Looks like a dealer job then. I bet they just replace the whole unit!

Is it like it all the time in the day Mark? I noticed mine would sometimes be very dim in the daytime but only occasionally. They have some form of auto dimming, maybe yours has gone wrong.

yep , ive noticed the auto dimming of the audio 20 too on both the w203 and w211.

    Maybe the unit is faulty.

I have the same problem in my sept 2005 E280 cdi the radio is dim all the time i can hardly read it ( its a audio 20 ) if anyone finds a solution to this it would be great .
I was advised the earth might be bad so i took my radio out and ran a wire from a screw
to one of the screws on the radio . ( no difference)

I got the same problem, "stealer" said that it's the light sensor problem, so new windscreen needed.

Light sensor is attached to the inside of the windscreen behind the RVM. Easily replaced and approx £50 from MB.
