French E10 petrol can damage older cars

The ANWB says the biofuel which mixes regular unleaded fuel with Ethanol can damage engines of older cars.

The Netherlands – The Dutch automobile association (ANWB) has warned car drivers about the French petrol E10, a recently launched biofuel which mixes 90 percent regular unleaded fuel with 10 percent ethanol.

In many petrol stations in France, E10 has replaced Euro 95 unleaded.

Regular use of E10 can damage the engines of cars manufactured prior to 2000 and even a few tanks of the new biofuel can lead to problems with pipes and connectors in older cars.

In most French petrol stations, Euro 98 is still readily available.

To see if your car is suitable for E10, visit the French website Site du ministère de l’Écologie, de l’Energie, du Développement durable et de la Mer - Lancement du nouveau carburant SP95- E10.

The majority of states in the USA have legislated unleaded E10.
E10 in the USA available up to 93 octane AKI which equals your 98 octane RON.
No problems seen over the past few years in automotive engines, other then lower MPG .
Problems in marine and small gas engines with deterioration of seals.
E10 is hygroscopic and has caused fuel system rustiing in engines that are not frequently run or stored.
Some areas in the USA even sell E85 for the newer dual fuel vehicles.
