Has anybody had the need to remove the internal lining to the boot lid of their W211 E Class or change the high level brake light ?

3 of the LEDs in the high level brake light have failed and to replace them [apparently, according to MB] you have to replace the entire unit. I have been quoted £110 to do this.

I thought I would have a go myself and save £40 - [unit price about £70] But having removed all the screws to the trim + plastic grommet fixers but I cannot seem to release the plastic holder for the warning triangle, which has a single screw in it (visible, that is). But it still seems fairly well secure having removed the screw and I don't want to pull with to much force for fear of breaking it and it costing me £40.

Any suggestions about what to do other than the obvious "take it to the dealer".

Thanks :)

LEDs are wired in 3 in series so if one goes out, 3 will. so you should be able to change the faulty one.

I will have the info somewhere but you must wait till sun down before I can look

There is a HOW TO on here on how to do this i think
