E220 / 02 W210 - Air flow meter

I have the above car and I replaced the air flow meter about 4/5 months ago as the car wouldn't accelerate past 3000 revs (about 80mph), the airflow meter went (2 months later) again and was replaced under warranty, it has just gone again today. Does anybody have any ideas as to a possible underlying problem which cause the AFM to go?

Thanks for this, it is due to go back into the garage tomorrow, but i have been having the car serviced every 10K (each 4/5 months) and the filters are changed at each service the car has 180K miles

Is it breathing oil, causing it to build up on the sensor?
