E220 09 plate
Hi.

Sorry, know next to nothing about cars so might struggle to articulate this.

Got an 09 plate e220 Cdi. Fine most of the time, drives well but on hard acceleration I get a huge cloud of black smoke. Accelerates fine otherwise. Worried it might be something nasty. Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome.

If the car hasn't been driven much it may clear up, but try adding some injector cleaner. I like Millers brand, it really seems to work.

Thanks dieselman. Never heard of injector cleaner. Do you just add it to your fuel?

Cheers

Yes.

I found Shell v power or ~BP ultimate to be effective too

Thanks all. Will try some posh diesel and give it a blast first then.

Thanks all.

Italian tune up today seems to have cleared it for now.

Many recommend that injectors be changed every 60K.
They are a heavy-wear service item.
I'm just about to change mine - something I shoulda done when I got it 18 months ago at 85K ... when it was already smoking a fair bit.
But I wanted to eliminate all other possible causes first.
When it gets really bad, the soot'll start coking up your lamda sensor - which'll sometimes put it in limp mode.

Thanks Lord. What's the damage for changing injectors?
