... in this months (Jan) issue of Car Mechanics magazine.I'm not sure how many people are interested in DIY on this forum but the article is worth getting as it covers how to diagnose the 3 common faults on this model.

Not a bad wee article as an intro to the VDO HFM engine management system. According to the article the 3 most common faults are
1. air mass meter
2. System ECU
3.The Overvoltage (protection)relay.
What they don't tell you is about the availability of the cheaper MAS sensor elements ( e.g. Pierburg http://www.msi-motor-service.de/ks/en/kataloge/pg_gesamtkatalog_en.asp from ECP) implying you have to buy an entire new MAS?

Yes, that's true but bear in mind the 2 guys they use on the electronic articles are probably Bosch agents.I also have the M104 article.
The one on Renault was interesting....poor quality wiring that can break down in as little as 3 years !
