I've just had the front pads and discs done on my W211 E220 saloon. I had new pads fitted about 3000 miles ago, and they started squeeking about 2000 miles ago. Having taken the car back to National Autocentre who did them initially, they said that the discs were 'lipped' and so causing the squeeking, and so had both pads and discs replaced at the front. The cars only done 48000, so how long should a pair of discs last, and whats the problem with 'lipped' discs. Should they have been noticed when the pads were changed? I'm wondering whther I've been ripped off here or whether they just let me down initially. Any tips or ideas?

Cheapo discs and pads can cause squeeking too.

Lip just means wear depends how big the lip is whether its actually worn out, must have been okay otherwise they would have said, because they would make more money selling you the discs.

48k doesnt sound to bad big car etc.

Not sure if the lip would cause the noise.

Recently changed mine and the wifes, mine had 100k and wifes 70k pretty sure neither were originals.
