Hello

we have a e class e220 2002 in the family and it is giving out a lot of white/grey smoke.

the smoke starts as soon as you start the car and gets worse as the car warms up

coolant hasn't moved an inch

we had it diagnosed by the following

merc specialist : he said star is saying your turbo has gone

a local mechanic : we serviced the car (oil change) and the smoke decreased for a few weeks, they said it might be your injectors

RAC : it maybe your injectors

another merc specialist : not sure what it could be as test on injectors is fine only one seems high

another local mechanic : its your inlet manifold flaps/motor, he spent some time and said 120% Certainty its the flaps.

so we are in a position where we are looking at a new manifold, manifold flaps or a new manifold motor

can anyone help give us any input to what would happen if we were to leave the flaps open

i have seen a manifold on ebay where the flaps are removed and the holes professionally sealed, i have not idea what that even means, what holes ?
the description says as follows :

"Item is in used, good condition with flap motors removed and their holes professionally sealed off! You will never have to change the manifold again!"

attached is a picture of the sealed holes

any advice would be appreciated

thank you in advance

Smell the smoke from exhaust .if it is not the turbo , you have to look if you have too much engine oil .But I dare its the turbo.what are other problems you had in car ??

Hi

Thank you for your replies

No loss of coolant

The 2nd merc specialist said your turbo is fine

Apart from this smoke issue

No other engine problems, runs fine just loads of white smoke

Dont think that all oil, is engine oil , that exits the tail pipe . If you are not loosing oil from the engine ,it can be from the brake servo it gets in to the engine via vacuum lines. So worth thinking about , if your oil is not missing on the dip stick

It hasn't dipstick w211 .But as I said before turbo or too much oil .The second should check.
